Is it just me, or are "chemtrails in the sky" real?

Just had a "discussion" with someone on facebook about "OMG just walked out and saw more "chemtrails" in the sky... they are killing us with their experiments is the popular comment."

Anyone else seeing this wacko sort of thinking pop up? What gets me is that they think that "they" (meaning the Govt) are putting something in the fuel for the airplanes and its coming down and effecting everyone on earth. All of this is coming from the contrails in the sky, or so their feeble brains say.

I usually ask them how they feel about trucks on the roads and the normal answer is "well they are not the problem." What they do not see nor understand is that diesel fuel used in trucks and jet fuel used in airplanes is exactly the same fuel, its just that jet fuel is filtered to a smaller degree.

Where do we get folks like this? "Tree huggers" is one thing but these people really think that condensation in the air from an airplane flying by is poison...

The tin foil hat folks need something to obsess about.

It is the dumbest thing since bigfoot, and almost as real.

My next door neighbor's dad would look up and say, "They're spraying us again," when he'd see contrails. This was someone who worked at NASA during the 60s and 70s.

I'm sure he died thinking the government had a hand in his demise... but never considered the three trips to McDonalds per week as a problem.

Stupid people - don't let them drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.

I've been dealing with this for at least a decade. Some people will believe anything. My favorite talk show host reminds his listeners that in consistent poling 12% of Americans believe Elvis is still alive.

My wife works with one of the "chemtrail dorks" He said planes spray them over the cities. I asked him to explain the planes over the middle of the Pacific ocean leaving the same contrails.

Most of what you see is water vapor condensed in the cold air.

But, when you think of it, there has got to be more. Each airliner takes off with tons of jet fuel. What comes out of the tailpipe? I suspect the only way you would end up with only water vapor would be to burn only hydrogen and oxygen. Anyone here know the combustion efficiency of a jet engine? What else is in the exhaust gas when cruising along at flight level 38? Oxides of nitrogen? Unburned hydrocarbons? Any sulfur in the mix? I don't know.

How long before California decides to put catalytic converters on airliners?

The human pragmatist in me thinks that polluting the protective ozone layer is not good in any form...by any country:
NASA releases images of Beijing air pollution - CBS News

The scientist in me thinks that the biggest problems should be solved first:
REPORT: Pollution from 15 of world's biggest ships equal that of world's 760m cars

The world is full of uninformed ignorant enviro-wackos.
Whatever you do, don't try to educate them with actual facts.
They are ignorant of the facts on purpose. It makes them FEEL better that way.

That's a pretty damned strong statement, considering the National Weather Service gets their predictions wrong 50% of the time.

The weather service is right 100% of the time..
80% right in the summer and 20% right in the winter.
