Country Time Motor Meltdown

As I suspected, a broken crank up by the snout. Most parts look like they survived the mayhem

Very unusual place for a crank to break. Like one in a million

I'd use a different manufacturer's billet this time around. If it was Crower last time, pick someone else this time.....

What a bad break, you going to be able to save the block?
Wonder what caused it to break there?
Any idea of the cost for a short block?

Cheers Richard

Does a race motor like that start with a factory stock block? Or is there race prep that is done on the block?

Cheers Richard

I believe this was a forged crank, I am taking it down to Crower and they are making me a billet crank $$$$

Block is fine, I am suspecting the balancer may have failed first

This is a ford racing block it is stamped on the block, lots of race prep, mainly windage and prep for the dry sump system.

Ok. But that doesn't make this an externally balanced motor. I'd wonder about bad harmonics in this crank failure.

I'd agree that this was a harmonic balance failure

Looking at the balancer itself, it doesn't appear to have the 28oz counterweight so it appears to be internally balanced.

The balancer itself is a ATI Super Damper, which is a mechanical ring damper. It may have failed.

Consider going to a Fluidampr next time. They don't fail, and don't need to be serviced or rebuilt

I believe ATI's are a good product, I did not know how many miles/hours were on this one.? The amount of hours I will run this dampener will break down to once a season. Nascar rebuilds after every race. I will check out Fluidampr also
