Travel and airline question for international travelers

I'm planning to travel to France with my son and then I want to fly on to Thailand to meet my girlfriend. I'm not having any luck figuring out how to arrange the plane trips. One way tickets are so expensive that it looks like it's cheaper for me to fly back to the US and then fly to Thailand even though it would be faster to fly from France to Thailand. Anybody have a recommendation on how to do this? And of course I'm trying to do this on a Saturday when most good travel agencies are closed.

Use Kayak.com (or cheaptickets.com) and select multi-city. I just did a SFO-SIN-SYD-SFO routing and after a few different tries found a good fare. I found that Expedia kept showing me a low fare but it would not confirm once I tried to book. I was surprised how cheaptickets worked - I kept refreshing the find until I got a flight combination that fit my needs.

Try a multicity trip through your primary US based airline. I don't know what cities you are visiting or what dates you need to travel on, but I just checked the Delta website and there are flights from ATL->CDG->BKK->ATL for $2300. Here is the trip from the Delta website. You should be able to find something similar on Continental out of Houston to any hub city.

If that doesn't work, try a multicity trip to France with a return leg from Thailand back to the US. Then add a 1 way from France to Thailand with someone like Singapore air.

Why not book a RT from Houston to Paris and also one from Paris to Bankok? Both are RT and you can probably even find some great last minute deals once you're in Paris. I got stuck in Frankfurt once and, after 40 hrs. of living in the airport, I found a one way flight to Dulles via Paris for $275. Europeans still use travel agencies and they advertise killer deals on signs on the sidewalk. I bet you'll have no problem if you don't mind waiting until you get to Paris to find a RT to Bankok.

What Rick said. My friend just did this. Round trip from Ohio to Europe, another roundtrip from Europe to Bankok.

What Rick said. That's how we are going to Morocco next month. RT to CDG. Then 2 cheap one-way flights to/from 2 different cities in Morocco.

Have you looked into an around the world ticket? That may work out better for your trip.

Thanks guys, I didn't notice the multiple city option. I was able to book flights for me and my son so we're on the same flight to Paris and the same flight to Frankfort before he jumps on a plane back to the US when I head off to Bangkok.
