I heard it as Mick Jagger walking into the room and caught Hugh Hefner having sex with Dennis Weaver. Mick yells "Hey, Hey, Hugh, Hugh, get offa McCloud!"

I don't know what nationality Ronnie Wood is, but true story: A buddy was visiting CA (Hermosa Bch I think) 'bout 15 years ago and pulled up a barstool one afternoon and damned if he wasn't sitting next to Ronnie. My buddy said Ronnie's accent was so thick that he couldn't understand a dang thing he was saying! Of course my buddy is as "southern" as they come....I would have liked to have been there for that conversation

Late Sixtes, early Seventies they were at there best. I will tell you that the band members are stellar musicians. I have allot of respect for their work over the years.

For the OP, a few of my favorite albums, somewhat in the order they were released: Hot Rocks (compilation of 60s hit singles) Let It Bleed Beggar's Banquet Exile on Main Street (favorite) Some Girls Lot's of others are "close", but that's a starter list...heck, I like ALL of the Mick Taylor period, and Ronnie's first "Black & Blue" don't suck, and....well hell I'm just a Stone's fan...part of the soundtrack of my youth ![]() Last edited by KFC911; 01-24-2013 at 12:46 PM.. |

The Stones began with the music written from bluesmen in the deep south. The "Rolling Stones Now" is my all time favorite LP from them.
It took some pushing and shoving to get them to write original stuff but it worked. When I saw the 3D LP with them dressed up in Psychedellic outfits.... well, that was the end of my interest. But they still came out with good stuff. I didn't buy it tho. And Altamount. Not good planning and the Stones knew it was going to be a bad thing. Effectively ending the "Peace, Love and Hippie era". |

I'm probably a bit younger than some of you guys that "lived it" through the 60s though...I was born in 60 so the 70s were "it" for me "in real time" ![]() |

I don't have any type of music equipment on my bikes but I can play Honky Tonk Women in my head any time I want while on the road.
I thought Some Girls was the comeback album of the year (whatever year it came out). Jim

I love everything up through Tattoo You. Dont like anything they did after that, except for Keith Richards' solo album which is great Was there sometimes a return to the early sound, which to me is pre-Beggars Banquet? No never..in my opinion. All those early british invasion groups evolved rapidly...Beatles, Kinks, and Who, etc....you can clearly hear when all these groups went from a garage band sound with short catchy pop songs to more experimental and eclectic. In the case of all these bands, my preference is for the very early stuff

If you can get a copy of Bill Wyman's book - Rolling with the Stones, do so.
I think its out of print. But I got a used copy on Amazon last week for $9. I just now checked and this week the used prices are back up to $85 for some reason. No idea why prices would jump so suddenly. Last week there were many copies available for less than $20. Anyway, great great book. Best stones book available i thnk And I think I paid about $2 for Bill's autobiography used on Amazon

i'm a big fan of the Stone's. The last good alblum they put out was Tattoo You, great on vinyl too. I actually saw them for the tour, I just turned 15.
The Mick Taylor years were really great also. Absolutely love Exile on Main Street, really like the tune "Sweet Virginia" on that one. Actually, I think all their coutry tunes are great...Dead Flowers and Far Away Eyes comes to mind. Yeah, the Stones are great. Dean
