Hot Rod suspention shops for Rustangs
Cobra Automotive Shelby Mustang brakes & suspensions If you're trying to build a legal race car.
Total Control Products this will give you a ton of adjustment in their A-arms Great sub-frame connectors and I used their motor-mounts after breaking Ford OEM ones every few months. Global West Suspension - American Muscle Car Parts I used their upper arms due to breaking a TCP A-Arm by not having the bump stop on the car ( trying to have some up travel on a low car put CP's a-arm in bind breaking a heim joint. Also had their front brake kit. Pro-Motorsports Engineering » Blog Archive » Mustang Shock Tower Repair/Reinforcement Kit reinforcement-kit/ 14 piece weld in front shock tower reinforcement kit Add in Roller Spring perches and the car should do well on 245/45/16 tires from Bridgestone Tire Search Results and on Vintage Wheel Works wheels their 16x8's fit better than American Racings REAL Torque Thrust wheels in 15x7" and don't lok to big for the car. People never said "Nice wheels" they allways said nice car.

Thanks Jim. I have used Global West in the past.
Good tip on the wheels, as my American Racing 16x8's don't fit for crap in the back.... ![]() Bill |

Good stuff, thanks Jim! I totally agree on the 16" wheel choice, any bigger just looks wrong. I'm a sucker for the V48 wheels, those are probably my favorite.

Honestly, I don't remember..... I sourced it and had it rebuilt with 3.73's about 7 years ago... The brakes are the 86 SVO rear brakes.
The project kind of stalled a while ago, I need to spend some time on it... Bill |

Jim, here's the Summit rear disc conversion mentioned in the other thread: 1970 FORD MUSTANG Summit Racing® Rear Drum-to-Disc Brake Conversion Kits SUM-BK1326-X - SummitRacing.com
10.5" vented rotors, single piston calipers. Nothing massive, but I also didn't know how much was needed for a non-track sporty Mustang. As for the motor question, any idea how much power I can get out of new heads, 4bbl + intake, headers, and a decent street cam? This would be bolted to an otherwise untouched 302, and I wouldn't want to compromise street drivability. I go back and forth, because swapping in a later EFI 5.0 would be a nice upgrade.

should be great for a street car. Hell keep the drums add some holes to vent gasses and you'll be happy with drums. ARF165 heads with a stock bottom end and a 270-278 cam should make you think your fast
Add a alloy radiatordrop heat and weight Alloy Waterpump, Alloy intake, lightweight starter and tube steel headers and move the battery tp the trunk and take 200 pounds off of the front

Bill, I assume you were happy with your rear disc setup?
Jim, I'll get rid of the drums just because I hate working on them. I've seen similar feedback that they can be pretty effective, but they'll be gone as soon as I can justify it. Good to know about the mods, that's the most likely approach I'll take. First order of business will be a compression check on the 302, but it was healthy when stored several years ago and has barely ran since. I will keep the C4 for now, but depending on how I use the car may look at a 5-speed upgrade in the future. Do you guys have an opinion on the Edelbrock Power Packages? I like the idea of an entire setup that has been optimized to work together, as opposed to mixing/matching/tinkering to find the right combination.

Matt, I do like the rear disc set up. I've had this Mustang since 1991 (my first car) and over the years has slowly evolved. It still has the I-6 200 in it although it has been extensivel reworked (3x1 webers, headers into dual exhaust etc).
I have not spent much time working on it over the past 6 or 7 years and it spends all of its time on top of the lift. I am looking to sell my Buick Station Wagon and maye that will motivate me to work on the Mustang. It needs the front disc's installed as well as a new clutch. Which because it a 6 cyl mated to a V8 bellousing/transmission its a nightmare finding the right parts. Bill |

Pretty much what you're seeing is how a C6 corvette front end is made. When I saw the underside of the car on a lift my jaw hit the floor. The A-arms bolt to the cradle and the cradle bolts to the frame for both front and rear. My C6 has 106k miles on it and I know that I will be doing a clutch some day. You drop the Prop shaft and remove the Rear cradle hoding the transaxle thats a defiant trans axle a modified transmission bolted to a modified diff.
I first saw it prior to selling my Mustang and spent a bit of time meassuring, drinking beer and trying to figure out how to stuff it under a vintage mustang Yes it's not cheap but new hubs, spindle, rack and pinion, a-arms, shocks, springs, sway bar, Tie rods etc?

I'd also give Mike Maier at Maier Racing a hat tip. I have a very competent vintage Mustsng that Mike helped me with; with modern super wide rubber it's simple but effective and probably all that flexible chassis should be asked to handle anyway. He'll spend any amount of time on the phone with you, too.
