At least being Canadian, you can't just move south, like you could if you were US American. I don't get the people in ND, MN etc. - they are just a moving van away from a warmer climate ...

I have had several job opportunities - good ones too - in cold climates. I passed ...

Low 50s at my house these days, by the time I get in the car ...

Actually I could move South. My Dad was born in Chicago so if I wanted to jump thru the hoops I could.

About 97 I looked into it. I was offered So Cali, NV and AZ as a sales territory. Family made me decide to stay here. It turned out that the company I was working for closed that division about a year later & I would have been really screwed.

+4 F here. Just a chill in the air. Breezy, too. 40 MPH gusts.

I say give global warming a chance. How cold does it get here? Well let me tell you how cold it gets here.

One time it got so cold you couldn't carry on a decent conversation. The words froze up and fell down before they got to you.

It's gets so cold here you have to put the beer in the freezer to warm it up...

It's gets so cold here the lawyers keep their hands in their own pockets...

Diesel?

I do not believe any diesel trucks would have started at that temp.

Sez the guy with -44 lows.

You wouldn't have been screwed. You would have looked for a new job, like millions of people have done before!

Low of -16C overnight tonight, high of -12C tomorrow.

Every year I ask myself why we still live here, because I hate the winter. I hate the cold, I hate the snow. I love the sun, summer, beaches, breezes, etc. And even when it's as hot as hades out, I still say I prefer it to the extreme cold.

So why do we stay? A number of reasons, I guess. Family is close, for one. I do feel Ontario is "home" and always will be (though I don't really feel tied to a city). Prefer the Canadian way of life over the American. Our summers are really nice, and from early September to late November, I doubt there's a more beautiful place on earth than Ontario or Quebec - our autumns are spectacular.

But January and February (and really most of March) sure are miserable. In the next few months, I'll see Florida, California and India. Less than 2 weeks until Florida - we're counting the days! I just put our kids to bed and reminded them "12 more sleeps!"

When I was in Vet School in Iowa it got to -38° a few times. So cold your ice skates would not move on a frozen pond...not enough weight to melt the ice beneath the blades...

When it is -40C it is the same as -40F. It was -19C here last night but never gets as cold as Regina and Winnipeg. Now I am retired we feel the need to go south more. We had a week near Phoenix in December. We will go for a week in Palm Springs pretty soon. We are not snowbirds but I can understand why some Canadians are.

Just south of San Francisco, here on the coast, it was about +70F today. That would be 117 degrees warmer. (If you convert: -44C = -47F)

+10º f here today.

every winter we'll get a solid week or two of -30º f. vehicles start failing. wild animals start having a hard time.

would always leave my truck facing into the sunrise. old timers believed that made a difference.
