I forgot to mention I collect books. Transportation related corporate histories (Ford, Firestone, International Harvester, Continental, Briggs and Stratton etc).

Antique radios from the '30s. My long suffering wife is truly a saint.

Just a couple favorites...

nice old wood radio's

I don't have the guts but do have a full sized

RCA 30's double door console box in mahogany

I bought it for 50 at a local garage sale
I bought it before looking inside as it was so nice looking

it came to me stuffed with older hi-fi gear
reel to reel jvc amp old tube preamp high end turntable

I collect 60's rock records about 3000
and old wood working tools mostly

wife has old glass collection

The tube hi-fi stuff is a bit late to my taste. I'll bet it sounds a Hell of a lot better, especially with your record collection. Got a picture of the cabinet? I would be interested in what was originally inside.

I don't want to leave my kids collectables... Just some real estate and money.

My dad had a bunch of old collectible books and stuff. When he died he left instructions on who to call and they would buy them. That was very helpful.

The stuff they didn't want was a problem to get rid of.

Not really sure if I'm collecting this stuff; just that if I see something interesting I keep it from the smelters.

Wow! That floor model Zenith is great. Brings back memories. We had one, not that fancy, when I was a kid. My parents had a little plastic 45rpm record player on top that my uncle wired into the radio. They had maybe 6 records - tops. I remember that big Zenith dial so well.

"I don't want to leave my kids collectables... Just some real estate and money."

If might be easier to pass on collectibles sub rosa.

Great looking old radios.

Drdogface 02-04-2013 04:19 PM

I'd like to see some pix of those, Al..

I have a number of old radios including the exact same Zenith console as above. I remember listening to the BBC during the Gulf War on it, but doesn't work any more. My favorite is my model 90 Philco cathedral and a nice old Detrola. But stopped collecting years ago....just remnants from an earlier infatuation.

Now I collect cylinders. 52 and counting including cars (5), boats (3), cycle (1), tractor, (1) and a few assorted leaf blowers, etc.

Love Crosley bakelite radios. Something about the old dashboard look that gets me.

I wouldn't mind having a few more, but the 911 has been eating up my funds as of late.

I just found an old radio resto site and looked lovingly at the Cathedral ones....wonderful...

ledhedsymbols 02-04-2013 06:55 PM

Lots of cool radios out there. If anyone wants to try working on theirs, PM me and I would be happy to help as much as I can. Not too hard if you have an interest.

I love the old cathedrals too! I have a couple that need restoring yet. Someday I will get them all working again... Just ask my wife!
