It actually used to be a great forum, where you could get into a lot of good discussions with some very smart and sane people.

But that time has long passed. The few people there that are really unhinged (and apparently have little or no life) dominate the place and have chased out anyone worthwhile.

If you look and see the few posters that post there from 8 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week (including all Friday night and all Saturday night), it's pretty sad. Really, so much time, all day and all night, trying to "win" arguments on a car parts BBS. It used to be kind of funny watching the anger and meltdowns, but now its just sad and unwatchable.

It's also very Groundhog Day-esque. The same thing by the same people, over and over. Clearly, there are some really socially awkward people there with some real inability to moderate their internet use.

It's really too bad.

I exercised my 1st 'ignore' w/o even posting...in PARF alley.

Not much different over here (lots of posters making lots of posts)...just less strongly held beliefs and different topics. Anything the least bit controversial over here gets sent there...so the strife is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

People pop in there, (PARF) do a drive by and toss a few insults (or get insulted that everyone doesn't instantly agree with their "profound" remark (suggest that person that disagreed be banned or the thread closed)...then come back over here to insult the people posting there.

I only see one poster in this thread that I do not recognize from posting in PARF...and most are/were just as much a train wreck as anyone else. It just seems to stink a bit more when it is someone else's flatulence.

The Chris Kyle thread really hit the lower limits of decency. I can only hope that some of the posters in that thread are just using their alternate phony internet persona, and are not really like that in the real world. If thats not the case then , its pretty sad.
I know some of you will say who gives a crap, its the internet, but whether it is in the real world or on here, i like to know that the people I interact with are decent human beings, and not scumbags.

fintstone 02-04-2013 07:51 PM

I agree...and that, like many of the worst threads, originated in self-righteous OT not PARF.

I still don't get the aversion to PARF. Some people just can't change the channel and so want to ban the tv show for everyone. I have a well-thought-out ignore list and those who remain off ignore are either pure entertainment, very intelligent posters, benign posters or good personal friends I know in the gravity world. I don't even bother opening some threads and I never get upset about anything I choose to read. I just don't get it. I think OT should have remained as it was several years ago and the mods should just ban the trolls to thin the herd for everyone.

slodave 02-04-2013 08:11 PM

It was very tiring to open OT and see 80% of the thread topics be religious and political. I am glad it was separated.

Rick Lee 02-04-2013 08:13 PM

What's so hard about not opening a thread whose title pretty well spells out what's in there? Never been a problem for me, especially when the OP is already on my ignore list.

slodave 02-04-2013 08:16 PM

Because you had to look at the subject lines! I did not enjoy seeing one after another.

EDIT: I'm on a laptop. With the current four stickies, I see 12 normal threads. Before PARF 11 of those 12 that are visible to me would have been PARF related. I'd have to scroll down to start seeing "normal" OT threads. That sucked. I didn't like waking up and having that shoved in my face.

I add people that get into personal spats over on PARF to my ignore list, and some of those who pretty much just degenerate into slurs.

Everynow and then, I go through and empty my ignore to see if anyone changed.

I know so long as I see a string of posts next to each other from a pair with a spat, to leave them both on ignore. It greatly shortens the reading time on a thread.

I am not very eloquent with the keyboard, so most of what I type over there, I never submit, or upon submitting, read what I wrote, slap myself in the forehead, and go find the delete or edit button.

I rarely watch TV or listen to the radio, so PARF is where I get most of my updates. After you filter through all the personal attacks, there is usually some good information. The diversity of opinions and beliefs usually covers all angles of an issue, so I can form my own opinion.

That is so very true.

My problem is on my phone I can't see what forum something is in, so I pop in to see what it is and BAM! PARF.

creaturecat 02-05-2013 04:54 AM

differing opinion = scumbag = parf

This is probably the most accurate statement about PARF. It's OK to dabble in there from time-to-time, but I wouldn't like to "live" there.

The folks in the US are generally so sensitive about politics that if I expressed my opinion in Parf it is like jumping in a shark tank. So I don't bother anymore. :)

??? I'm puzzled by this. You say some people want to ban the TV show for everyone as if that's not you. Then you say the mods should have just banned the trolls instead of starting PARF. I think having PARF to throw the trolls in is the most democratic solution. It's entertaining over there, and the first page of some topics can actually be interesting - even some that are started by the usual trolls. They don't last much longer than a page before the personal attacks start though.

onewhippedpuppy 02-05-2013 06:44 AM

The occasional browsing is enough to remind me why I stay away. I'm all for polite discourse and well-reasoned argument, but PARF is largely morons calling names. I deal with enough stupid people in real life......
