Dodge 1500 vs Ford F150

Which? Make your case. I am seeing the Dodge's at lower prices and wonder if it due to quality or Ford having higher brand appeal?

I owned an '02 Ram 1500 and it is probably my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. It had the new (at the time) Magnum 4.7 V8, mated to a 5-speed manual. It was a blast to drive. I recently bought a new car (last August) and seriously considered a new Ram. It was really smooth and comfortable and the deals were unbelievably good. It lost out not to another truck but rather a car, mainly due to lack of need for a full size truck and garage space. Fuel economy wasn't as good as the car either.

I hear good things about the Ford but I prefer Dodge's styling. I had no quality issues with mine apart from a couple of minor trim bits when it was new. Those were sorted under warranty and it really became a reliable workhorse on the long-haul. Still wish I had it.

I have a 2012 F150 XLT 4x4 Supercrew with a 5.0. Our final choice was between the Tundra and F150, the GM products had too small of a backseat and my wife hated the Dodge. When she wasn't around I did comparison shop the Dodge, the standard sized crew cab (Quad cab) is SMALL in back, and the Crew Cab model was difficult to get with the options that we wanted for anywhere close to the Ford pricing. I don't believe that even the Crew cab model was as spacious as the F150 which is huge inside, and I didn't really care for the interior. They also had stupid looking two-tone seats if you opt for the cloth interior. I did like the Hemi, but otherwise didn't feel that it drove as nicely as the F150 with the 5.0.

Honestly all of the full sized trucks on the market are pretty good. Go drive them all and buy the one you like most, because you can't go too wrong.

I am a Dodge guy from way back in the 60's but no one is building a truck to hang with Ford, if you are planning on using the truck as a truck.
For the weekend Lowes runner either would be okay

Ford > Dodge, period.

That's just my personal bias. My main dislike when it comes to Dodge are their interiors, which just look like cheap plastic across the board. I LOVED the new Challenger when it came out...until I saw the interior. And that's what made me choose the Mustang.

While I do own Ford Superduty, I did have a Dodge 1500 for about 3 weeks (rental as my Excursion was having hail damage repaired) a year ago and I did like the engine. It was a burnout machine.

The interior was smaller though, and I thought the materials felt cheap.

We used the newer Dodge trucks for our Survey vehicles and really liked them.

Are those comparable trim lines? Or is one the XLT and the other the Larimie?

Interiors have changed for the better since the Fiat deal. Plus you get a 300hp v6 and 8 speeds giving you 25mpg highway. If you aren't using it as a work truck it might be something to consider.

Had both, as well as superduty and HD . The Dodge front end (ball joints etc usually needs major work at 100K mi. Ran last F150 to 150000 mi before major work (trans). Both are good weekend trucks but I prefer the F150 for abuse.
You can overload leaf springs further than coils in my experience.
Have a 2012 F150 now last Dodge was a 2004.

it depends what you are wanting to get out of it, I had a dodge 1500 a while ago used it primarily to haul my race car, it ended up not being enough truck, so I went with a dodge 3500 and was very happy with it.

25 MPG sounds great until you drive 5000 lbs of truck with 300 HP. I do a lot of two lane driving, and frequently exercise all 360 HP when passing slow semis.

I've owned Chevy Dodge and Fords and all have strengths and weaknesses. The is no clear winner. All will do the job and all will have problems. It is only luck if you have or don't have problems. Same Same Same in my book.

What I want to know is, which 1/2 ton gets decent mileage towing. My '06 F150 with a 5.4 gets 16ish empty on the highway, but put a 2,000 pound enclosed trailer behind it and it brings it to its knees. Mileage drops to 11ish, or even worse with winds and hills. I have to drive it from SoCal to Florida next month and I'm already having nightmares about the fuel bill!

We get 13-14 highway towing our 18' boat, which is probably no more than 4000 lbs. Normally it's 17-18 mpg.

i've got a 2007 dodge ram 1500 and love it. i had rented trucks from all 3 domestic manufacturers before owning my own and shopped them all. imo the ford was the most car like. i went with the dodge because it had a longer bed than the ford (and $4k less) and was $10k cheaper than a comparable chevy. chevy had just redesigned their trucks and they were selling for about sticker price here. gas prices were rising and few wanted a gas-guzzling hemi, so dodge offered it for free ($6k option).

fwiw my friends with chevy gas trucks seem to get better gas mileage than my dodge.
