a friend of mine got jumped by thugs. IN his house.
San Jose California. my buddy is not a large guy. small vietnamese man. he came home from work to find 3 guys in his house burglarizing the place. he jumped on one of them and started swinging. the other 2 came to help, and my friend got his ass kicked. he ran out and found a guy driving and asked him to call the cops..turned out he was the "wheel man"..
it got me thinking. all my guns are locked away. except a few for close encounters. what is the "fine line" between having the gun accessible and having them available to the burglar? hide them or get a fast access small safe? the idiots could have everything in my home..whatever. i just dont want them to have any of my guns. (he said they looked like high school kids)

Every gun in a safe except the one you're carrying.

This. Wow, that would be scary. Is he O.K or did they really beat him up really bad?

he looks like he was in a big fight..black eye, puffy lip. he had to cancel on a party, because he didnt want his elderly mom to see him like that. i wish i was there..we both probably be beaten, but i would have done some damage..
wish we had concealed carry here, but no..we have to resort to very harsh language.

unless you are carrying, i don't see a good way out of that scenario. skeedaddling to a neighbors with a phone and a gun is pretty much the only option. though give the guy points for having the balls to jump three teenagers bigger than him.
there is a cottage industry out there building james bond type secret/easy access gun safes. would be nice if i could be standing in my doorway, push a button on my keyring, and have two loaded mac-10s fall out of the ceiling.

Isn't it wonderful to live in a utopian disarmed society? I'm sure he's simply leaving out the part where the police came riding in on instantaneous notice and apprehended the perps without so much as a struggle. That's the way it always happens, just ask Obama/Feinstein/Pelosi/Brown/Bloomburg/et al

Bummer.
Glad he was not more injured. He made an extremely bad decision. Backing out and dialing 911 would have been the obvious correct choice. |

Seriously, I hope he now gets a good alarm system. Cops prefer silent in the hopes of catching them. I prefer a very loud siren so they want to leave.

It's one thing if you're already inside your house and have an intruder, you probably fight them with whatever you have available, like LL Cool J. But if you're still outside and see an open door or broken lock and you enter, you're a serious fool. |

Vash, glad your friend is ok. I will agree with the others, he shouldn't have left the house as soon as he realized there were people in it. Neil

This is what's wrong with the mindset in this country. A man should run away from his own home when he finds an intruder? Are you kidding me? Do you think these idiots will be more or less likely to return? We might as well just leave our homes open all day so they won't actually break anything when they come to take our stuff.

After that experience, if we leave the house empty, even with the two dogs in the house, I either take my gun with me or lock it up. Even if I'm just taking the dog for a walk in the neighborhood, I don't want to take the chance of a gun getting into the wrong hands.

but... Surprising an unknown criminal who is robbing your house is a bad idea whether your a 120# asian dude, a 105# girl or a pro-boxer. Getting killed for your stuff doesn't seem like a good way to go. Better to learn a lesson and survive to be better prepared in case there's a next time.
