Show started around 8 PM and ended around 5AM. Mountain was one of the bands that played but weren't billed along with Johnny Winter! Mountain made the stage literally shake Never saw soooo many stoned people in my life that night.....and I've got hundreds of stubs from Grateful Dead shows!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1361322776.jpg |

Stevie Ray Vaughn died in summer of 1990.

I bought the Zep reunion show on bluray thinking it would be awful. I was surprised at how well they rocked. Quite sloppy playing by Jimmy as usual, but very well done with great energy
I bought the Cream dvd thinking that would be awful and i was pleasantly surprised by how much i liked it even though i much prefer clapton's gibson/marshall sound over his strat/tweed sound. The audio quality on this one is amazing i would pay to see both these bands play any day i love the stones more than both and admit, i think they sounded best live back in 1963 |

JW was the man back then! Got hooked on him while still in high school in '72. Those were some great times, you know? |

However, No Quarter live stuff (Plant and Page, mid 90s) and Celebration Day- there is nothing sloppy about these performances. |
Jimmy CAN play well live. He was pretty f**ked up on heroin for a while there and he broke his hand at one point.
If they tour, I'm there. |

All aside, I just don't view the LZ reunion thing about the money. C'mon, these guys are waaaay beyond that. Ahead of their time back when no other band created their own label like they did with Swan. All gold my son.... pS. Only a true old fan has dried puke still in his LZ III album sleeve. |
I saw them play here the summer of 1970. Led Zeppelin II was at it's peak of sales.
Man-Pop Festival - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The stadium PA was fried from the rain so they borrowed PA's from local bands to get enough equipment to play inside the arena. There was no stage. They played on the floor, same level as the crowd. I was up on the side. When they started to play the crowd sat down on the floor. Then some freak started to dance, just giving it. The police started to move in to grab him and the crowd roared. The police moved back and the band kept playing and the freak kept dancing. They didn't start playing till 1:30-2:00 am and I didn't get home till 5am I was 14, lots of fun. :) |
My favorite Led Zep video - Immigrant Song - Australia 1972.
Great freakin' great jam starting at 2:22. :) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Y2hZ6OytDxo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Saw Robert Plant in Chicago a few years ago - did a lot of Zep tunes and some solo stuff (most of which I like). This was I think 1997 and he looked old and haggard then. He'd be 15-or-so years older now, just don't think that'd be worth it. His voice was still pretty good but he did skip over some of the real high "belt it out" signature notes which left me a bit unfulfilled feeling. He hit them a few times but when he skipped it was noticeable (downside to knowing all the songs and having expectations I suppose...)
I flat-out refuse to pay to watch a band perform on TV which is what most stadium shows have become. Boor-ing! Of course I find paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to get a good seat (floor, first 10-or-so rows) equally stupid so I guess I'll be sitting this one out. Was very fortunate to see Pearl Jam in WI at Alpine Valley the summer after Stevie Ray died. Spiritual place. I did manage to get down front for that one too. :) Scott did you happen to catch The Who at LB Civic Center when they came through last time? Thought about it (two co- workers went, I couldn't due to work commitments) but I'd be curious to hear your take on it if you did. I always thought that'd be a decent venue for a concert - not too big, kind if at the limit of what I'd do size-size now. |
Unless I can get four tickets for less than $20 and a "four fat finger lid" for the same price then I have no interest in trying to recapture the "good ol' daze", but that's just me :D. I still like "club shows", but stadium/arena tours "on TV"...not so much...rock on!!!
Now get off my lawn :p! |
I was hooked on LZ from the very beginning.
IMO, one of the best that came out of LZ was Robert Plant's "Big Log" . Robert Plant - Big Log - YouTube . BTW, the video is a P!ss Poor match to the song. . My fav road-trip song; his voice and the music is haunting and penetrating. To me, the lyrics are more about creating a mood than saying something concrete. They do that really well, and then when you add the music you have an evocative atmosphere. It's beautiful ... the best poetry is where there is room for the reader or listener to fit into ... this one has a lot of room. |
Brilliant!
