Cool stories..... to think the best I can do is AC/DC "Back in Black" tour, 1980. I envy the guys that got to see LZ in their prime. Best band of all time, IMO.

^^^ Same here. If you can believe it, by then all those were tamed crowd control concerts and TERRIFIC. The most insane crowds I recall at Alpine were the early 1980's Rush shows.

LZ trivia:
.
I heard an interview w/LZ on San Francisco radio KSAN 100 yrs. ago wherein they said that the group used the song "Rock and Roll" as a warm-up when they returned to the studio after a long time away. A sound man once recorded it & the group decided it should be on an album.

I would go see them anywhere... Loved them then and still love them now. Who cares if they are in it to make money, isnt that why everyone does music now a days? Except for Pearl Jam... They'd do it for free...

Unless John Bonham plays drums, Zeppelin won't be there and neither will I. There are lots of great drummers around today and Jason is one of them, but no one has the feel and mind to play the way he did. And I think Page and Jones and Plant feel the same way. Loved their interview on Letterman, though.

Just my opinion.

Wasn't there a TV reunion a while ago? I remember a fat Jimmy Page, Jason Bonham playing the drums and some girl from India doing the high notes for Robert Plant.

I checked the Wiki-page and I couldn't find that performance.

There was a recent honary event at the Kennedy Center televised on PBS.
Led Zeppelin & Kennedy Center Honors: Iconic Band Is Recognized

Plant commented he's game to write new songs if anybody else wanted to.

red-beard 02-20-2013 11:16 AM

It wasn't too recent, more than 5 years ago, but after 2000.

red-beard 02-20-2013 11:23 AM

I found the girl on the Robert Plant Wiki - "haunting vocals of British-Asian star Najma Akhtar"

It must have been around the time of the UnLedded tour.

I remember watching the song remains the same and thinking Bonham was the most down to earth and fun of Zeppelin. During his Moby Dick solo they showed him racing dragsters, farming, being a family guy, ect. Seemed like the nicest of all the guys. I don't think you can have a real "reunion" tour without the original members. There is a chemistry that gets lost when one of the original members is not there. The Who went on without Moon but it wasn't the same.

I would spend quite a bit to go see Zeppelin in real life if they truly are touring next year. I was disappointed a few years back when I had tickets to go see the Toledo symphony orchestra and a LZ tribute band play together. Unfortunately something came up and had to give tickets away.....argh !

Too all those in this thread saying Zeppelin are too old, its all been done before, that no one can replace John Bonham- I just say get hold of the recently released "Celebration Day". If youre still unimpressed, then fair enough.

Ofcourse noone could replace John Bonham. On the other, only Jason could replace John Bonham, and IMO, on Celebration Day, he steals the show and Zeppelin is more than happy for him to do it.

(BTW guitar players- this film is utter guitar pron.)

That's that geriatric band that sings Free Bird, right?

Its funny Doug- I started a thread on "Celebration Day" about the time of its release (Xmas '12) - and it sank like a stone.

Its a "must have" for fans, its bloody great, and for all sorts of reasons.

This is the version. I used to play the UnLedded Album while working on the car or painting. Puts you right.

A great album, done in a different tempo and style... (sorry, crappy sound, get the album)

I'm afraid of two things if I were to go see them and they performed Kashmir like this 1.) Somebody would see the tears of joy flowing down my cheeks.
2.) My work place would "random" drug test on me the following day and from just being in attendance would pull a positive.

VERY cool!

EDIT: Never mind...I just noticed it's Gonzo's little boy, Jason. Cool pic anyway and I agree with you on your post about Jason Bonham as the only one who 'could' replace his dad.

1970 - riding to high school in my brother's Chevy van with hard rock stereo including huge azz speakers in the back.

8 track tape : Led Zeppelin 1 - playing full volume - windows, doors, everything -- vibrating like the whole van's going to explode!

It just doesn't get any better.......until Led Zeppelin II is released of course. :)

flatbutt 02-20-2013 04:51 PM

that would be epic beyond description. I would pay MUCH to get tix for me and my son.
