I'm interested in getting something in .308 at some point, but I can't see myself getting a new caliber when I can't get ammunition, bullets, powder, or dies.
I always see .308 on the shelves. It's .223 and the common pistol calibers that are still scarce.

You can buy anything you. want as long as you are willing to pay the current asking price!

I saw a story on the news about a town in Arizona that wasn't allowing its police officers to target practice until the ammo shortage is resolved. Where are all the rounds going?

Massive purchases by the Governments....Feds on down. They are first in line *and know it*.

I find that hard to believe. Is that DPS or various county or city agencies? Most of the police training I see are cops shooting on their own time at private ranges that give LEO discounts precisely because the agencies don't require a lot of training or range quals. I've met cops who get one box (50 rds) a year for practice and then have one annual range qual. So a lot of them choose to stay proficient on their own.

I've been told similar. The common assumption that all cops are good with their weapons is false. I've also seen numerous cops at the range that I frequent, so they obviously have the need to practice independent of required training.

I'm pretty sure it was Arizona but the story was on the nightly news (NBC or ABC) a few nights ago. The gist was that officers couldn't waste rounds at the range training because of the shortage so their accuracy will be off and cause more shots to be fired.

Now that's funny. There are pretty regular police shootings where scores if not hundreds of rounds miss their targets or hit innocent bystanders. I'd say they all need more training, shortage or not. How many rounds did those LAPD cops fire at the wrong two pickup trucks without even verifying vehicle make, model, color, occupant gender and race and that any of them had a gun? Those cops won't lose their jobs or do a day of jailtime for that either. And the resulting lawsuits could have paid for a lot more ammo and (much needed) training.

All I've seen at Walmart is 308, 17, and maybe some 40. Shotguns ammo is good.

Makes me want to buy a 308!
