Ever search for unclaimed property due to you? I just found >$600 due to my cousins!
A couple of years ago I found that my dad had a mutual fund that wasn't listed in his estate. Funds were being held by the state of FL. Me and each of my siblings got around $1800 from that one.
I looked up my uncle's name in TN and found at least $600 due to my cousins... one item just says "securities" so I'll be interested to hear what that one is once they make a claim. Odd that it's unclaimed. One of my cousins lives at the old house and that's the address listed on the TN unclaimed property web site. Go here to start your search: NAUPA I'll be happy to send my address if you need to send me a finder's fee! ![]()

Wife found one with CA for $1.17 in dividends. I think she should claim it. It will probably cost Ca $100 to process the claim.

I've gotten a few things over the years, but not $1800 worth.

My sister just found $1575.00 owed to our mother by a Missouri utility company. She provided them with a death certificate and they paid up without hesitation.

Funny. I found four different items on my Mom's side. All cousins and and Uncle.
Didn't look like anything monumental. Nothing for me. Larry |

I usually search these every so often. The newspaper in Dallas used to run a list. I realized I never checked in Iowa where I grew up. No luck, but then I put in my dad's old business and two entries for about $220 came up. Since the business was sold back in 1988, I'm not sure what records are still around for him to claim it. But thanks!, no need for your address

Lee,
Thanks for reminding me it's time to search. I look occasionally and have found things for relatives but never for myself. They have never needed my address for the reward either.

Thanks for this reminder; found money due to an old friend. I hope his heirs can collect without much trouble.

After my grandmother passed away I by chance checked the newspaper listed of unclaimed assets. Sure enough there was a small bank account no one new about waiting to be claimed. Strange that I dont remember seeing the listing in the paper before or since.

Unclaimed Property
This sort of thing happens, but is far from common. What I see the most in my practice is people who are heirs to an estate where the person died intestate (without a will). If we can prove heirship (relationship of my client to the decedent) the client receives the money rather than it going to the state. This happens most often when the family has been broken up and family members have lost track of each other. The family stories are fascinating but most often very sad.
