RS - Yes is my answer.
My girl is only 4. I hope I can learn to not worry about my kids when they get older.

I always chuckle when I hear this song on the radio. I could'nt find the actual video to link on youtube so instead I'll just past in a verse and chorus of the song by Rodney Atkins:

Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind

She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Sure he can. You just set the bar of credibility being anyone who has raised a daughter a few posts back. And recycled started a thread on PPOT asking whether he was being overprotective by wanting to tag along with his 24 year old daughter on a business trip.

This is way beyond "overprotective", it's obsessive behavior to the extreme. I seriously wonder whether she will ever be allowed to leave home and live her own life. My mom is a control-freak. I've had plenty of control-freaks in my life. This is off the charts.

We are all free to offer our opinions on this weirdness. He asked us to on a public forum. And hey, it's the internet. He might be a bored teenager posting as a concerned father with a weird question just for laughs. If he's for real, it's strange.

And Reg, sexual obsession with one's daughter and revulsion at the thought of some other guy humping her is the weirdest of all. The whole "cleaning a shotgun on the porch" schit is beyond weird...no one is afraid that the teenaged boy is going to murder their daughter, just mess around with her and maybe dump her.

Welcome to the real world. You're doing your kids a major disservice by sheltering them from it.

speeder @ post 113 nailed it!

The OP is looking for validation of his own behavior, thus by "blame and shame" if you don't agree with me then you are the one that is wrong...heaven knows it is not me!

This thought process is so far out in left field, over the fence and past the parking lot that its absurd...and tuff to ever wrap my head around. To me its not about if the OP is a caring father/husband or if he wants the best for his adult daughter and is mindful for her overall safety. All valid concerns.

Its about how the OP is "choosing" to micromanage an adult woman and projecting himself on and in her life. His inability and/or insecurities to let go...he just wants a sunny day for his parade!

I guess it's just strange to me because my Dad did not pay that type of attention to my sisters. If anyone harmed them, that would be different and I'm sure that he would have taken some action. But he did not meddle in their lives one iota once they were not children anymore.

It's very nice to love and care for your daughters welfare but by 24 she is by all measures (and by a few years) an autonomous adult. Out of high school our daughter (18) embarked on a three month journey through Europe by all by herself.... (friend bailed at the last moment)I think her mother spent some concerned hours but I was confident that she had the tools necessary to make smart choices on her own. I personally think that it contributed to the very strong and confident character that she is today. Cheers
