First date. Take the Porsche?

I've got an '85 930. Taking a girl out tonight, and I'm debating between the 930 or my daily-driver, which is a '04 Isuzu Rodeo.

I'm worried the 930 will come off as too poncy, or too "that guy", like I'm trying too hard. I just wanna drive it to be honest.

While the Rodeo is more pedestrian, I don't want to come off like I'm all broke.

BTW, this is the type of chick who isn't impressed by your car, (from what I've gathered so far), so I'm not trying to impress her.

Yeah, take the Rodeo then work the 930 into the conversation if it seems appropriate.

Don't ever mention it. Let her find out about when she finds out about it.

If she's not impressed with the Porsche then she shouldn't be offended either. Do you wear your best clothes or your worst? "Wear" whatever car you like. If she has a problem with the Porsche the relationship isn't going to work out anyway.

Don't let her know you own a Porsche or anything else expensive. Take you other vehicle. Make sure she likes you first and not the things you own.

Nor do you want her if she's too excited by it. She'll be under the impression you're loaded. Pay close attention to her reaction when she first sees or hears about it. Does she immediately cozy up to you?

This was the approach I was going for. Kinda like Eddie Murphy in "Coming To America"; fall in love with ME, not my throne.

So far she doesn't know I have a Porsche, so I'm not sure how it would or could come up without coming across as poncy.

That's how I kinda wanna run things. Plus, that's how I am as a person, not ostentatious or in-your-face at all, (yet I own a 930...)

That's the counter-point that I'm struggling with. I want to look "my best", and I want to make a good impression, but not come off like I'm trying too hard. I'm thinking if I look nice and professional, (dress my best), then I take the pedestrian car, though it is washed, clean and looks nice, than that's a nice balance.

Maybe.

Friend's b-day party. Low-key event, prolly not too long. After that, who knows? It's Saturday night.

After my first date with my now wife, at the St Regis, she saw my 993 cab and called it a piece of crap. It was nearly new back then. Haha

Then she probably isn't a gold-digger either. I see what you're saying about not wanting to try too hard but IMO the worst mistake someone can make in dating is being what they think the other person likes instead of being themselves. Then, when the real you comes out, she will say "why did you change?". If you're worried about her looking at the money then talk about how many people assume that owning a Porsche means having an expensive car but a new X-brand car costs more than your car. I'm not too proud to say that I work on mine to save money because the real cost of ownership is in the maintenance. That said, if you are comfortable in the Rodeo then put on you best boots, saddle up, and have a good time.

Bust out some Randy Watson on her. Then you get the woman.

Don't take the Porsche unless its the only car that is running at the time. Let her know you for a while and then down the road, if she's still around, just bring it with you when you go out on a date. No need to talk endlessly about the Porsche heritage either. Treat it like you're going to dinner in a Chevy. Also, with either car, even a POS DD, always open the door for her - that will really impress her.

Way overthinking this. Out on a Saturday night, a 930 (red?), is a cop magnet. So, if there's a beer or two in your future, take the DD. Use common sense and don't worry about the girl.

Take the Porsche.

If the date goes badly, you at least get to have some fun on the way home

Leave the Porsche for another day when you want to close the deal with her. Get her thinking you are just the average boring guy then show up in a 930 with a picnic lunch, and a blanket.
