				Allegiant air

Allegiantt is a small airline, the cheapest of the cheap, no frills but... did I mention they are cheap?

My wifes daughter is in Eugene and her sister/father are in Medford and Allegiant has direct inexpensive flight between Los Angeles and those cities so they work for us. Christmas time we get the call "dad is not going to make it you need to get here ASAP if you want to see him before he goes". We book the next flight for the next afternoon... wife checks in online that evening. In the morning we get the call... "dad didn't make it, don't bother coming, reschedule for services on the weekend." So we call Allegiantt to chenge the reservation... "sorry, you checked in, we can't change the reservation after checkin." At that point we were still numb from the news about dad and I just let it go... After we got back home wife printed up the obit, and newspaper articles etc relating to dad's passing and sent them all with a letter to Allegiant. Nice try I thought but I wasn't holding my breath. Today we get this email: "Thank you for taking the time to send us a fax regarding your request for an exception due to extenuating (bereavement) circumstances. Please accept our condolences for your loss. Upon review of the documents you have submitted, we have authorized an one-time exception to your reservation. If travel protection is not purchased at the time the reservation is made, change and/or cancel fees will apply. A non-refundable credit voucher for a future Allegiant booking has been updated by the total amount of $286.98USD". So wow, customer service is not dead!

That is certainly an A+ for customer service. A very rare occurrence these days.

Sorry about your loss, but at least the airline understood and made a humane decision....one that a larger airline probably would not have made.

It seems Airlines do somewhat give a crap.. I was booked for a cruise out of Miami to Nassau a few weeks ago when a big blizzard hit the Northeast, My flight to Miami was cancelled the day before the cruise sailed. Called the cruise company....to cancel, they basically said tough luck... they refunded the taxes and fees and kept the money for the cruise I scheduled, even though I mentioned I wanted to reschedule the cruise on another date.. OK I am out $500 ( it was just a 3 day cruise) The airline (delta) and the hotel I booked (Marriot), both refunded my money and were more than helpful in that regard. Delta would seem the most obvious to step up since they preemptively cancelled. Marriot was good, perhaps because I am a"gold" points member I rebooked on another cruise line, two weeks later, Delta was good. Marriot was good When we got to the airport... my gf asked me if she needed her passport..... Maybe this should be in a worst date thread??

You must have caught them on a good day. They charge you for everything. I think the bathrooms only take one dollar bills.

Better than United. They gave me all of a $15 discount to get back to LA for my dad's funeral.

Sorry for your loss. I've taken Allegiant multiple times, they are currently the only direct flight to Phoenix and Vegas and CHEAP. I'm glad to hear that they actually feature some degree of humanity.
