Does this mean the cars will have turrets?

All cars will have two seats for the race and lucky fans will be able to call "Shotgun" on thier favorite driver.

Sounds like a perfect case of knowing your audience.

Perhaps all/most/many NASCAR fans are NRA members, but many NRA members are not NASCAR fans.
(Disclaimer: Being a Danica fan does not necessarily make one a NASCAR fan.)

I don't think this is good way for NASCAR to expand its base.
I admit I occasionally watch Nationwide & Sprint Cup races, but it is usually on in the background while I am doing something else. Rolex Sports Car series racing I pay closer attention to, especially the GT class. I am a Tony Stewart fan and have been for awhile. Before that I was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. I still have #3 logo merchandise that I look upon with sadness. Like a lot of others, the race & fight at the '79 Daytona 500 is the first race I remember watching and getting me interested. Imho, the NRA current leadership is so out of touch with the average gun owner that I don't think I'll be watching this race. Disclosure: I am a gun owner - pistol & shotgun. Agreed. But what is the alternative. This is worthy of its own thread.

Too big to fail

The NRA is simply the lobbying subsidiary of the firearms industry.

Is this a "What's good for General Bullmoose (Firearms Industry) is good for the country (Firearms owners)" kind of situation?

I am not a NASCAR fan, nor am I a NRA member, so I am an unbiased party. Just a car fan.
I think it is great that this race has been added. TMS will be a great host.

I am an NRA member and firearms owner. I am not much of a NASCAR fan. Might change. I think NRA sponsorship is a good idea.

Just need to go back to the Winston tie in and push the Bud/Busch products more... "Got damn 'Merican."
.. NRA not really pushing all firearms.. not big on hunting side of the game, REALLY pushes the assault rifle spectrum and associated tough guy gear...., and proverbial home defense weaponary. Should be name change to National Assault Rifle Asso. |

The NRA has fought hard to limit the current govt's attack on our right to bear arms. Do the manufacturers benefit also? Sure they do..... so what? The NRA reacts most strongly to whatever firearm issue the govt is currently trying to attack. Currently it happens to be "scary" black plastic firearms (that only account for a small percentage of homicides). The NRA knows that govt has no reverse gear and that the left would outlaw all but their own body guards from owning weapons if given the chance.
My grandfather was a lifelong NRA member and I intend to continue supporting the NRA as well. I am all for any way the NRA can rally support for gun rights as there is strength in numbers whether it comes from Nascar fans, hunters, etc.

At least NASCAR knows it audience. NRA seems as much a perfect fit as Budweiser, Lowes, Home Depot, and the Craftsman truck series.

I see this being more beneficial to NASCAR and the track hosting the event than the NRA. I wonder who is paying who?
