My brother is hunting today with a former POTUS

Ok...so its "only" Jimmy Carter. He called my brother up this morning and wanted to go quail hunting this afternoon. Brother gave him an old .410 pump a year or so ago that he loves. They shoot 2 1/2 shells to make shooting pen raised quail a little moe sporting. Yup...two SS guys in tow.

Brother says he's suprisingly fit and a pretty good shot for a 90+ y.o.

At least he doesn't have a history of shooting his hunting partners in the face, so that is something.

I met him once at seminar during grad school at TAMU during the '80s. A class act and an agile mind. Naval Academy grad like my old man. I still admire the man, YMMV

My brother is a veterinarian in Plains, Ga. Carter comes by his clinic at least a few times a month to hang out. They have dinner together at least once a month. Apparently not a whole lot to do in Plains. LOL

I believe Carter was the only president with an engineering background. So it seemed logical to him to tell Americans to cut down on energy usage. BZZZZZZT one and done.

I used to hunt pat and rabbit with a bolt action 410....you learn to shoot or go hunger, plus it doesn't tear them up.

My brother is about as apolitical and naive in that arena as they come. But thru his friendship with Carter he's learned a ton...parrticularly with regard to the Middle East. Fascinating behind the scenes perspectives on the ME leaders of the Carter era and their personalities away from the ideaology.

One example was Carter's spin on Arafat. Basically he seemed to be a very mild and gentle person thrust into his role as a Palestinian leader. Apparently behind the scenes he was completely different than his public personna.

Carter was one of the few decent humans to be president in recent history. Possibly too decent to do the job.
