Experience with Ipad gen 1 cell speed and current Ipad LTE?
Anyone upgraded from an Ipad 1 or 2 to the latest with 4G/LTE? Is it a noticeable difference in cellular speed connection? I use the heck out of the cell option but I need a bit more speed, however I don't want to bother if it's not a good speed increase between the two.

Remember there is:
3G (500-1M) HPSD+(3-4M, but lots of users sharing bandwidth) LTE(10+ and not many using it right now) I think the original iPad and the iPhone up through the 3GS were 3G. The 4's were HPSD+ and the 5 is LTE.

My dads iPad is 3G, and mine is 4glte. The LTE is noticeably faster. Well worth it.

Now that it can be reliably jailbroken, iOS 6 is good. I've been on the fence about an iPad or mini (probably will do the former because of the retina display - the mini is cool but seems fuzzy to me). Also likely to get wifi plus cellular capability although I hate the cost and probably won't use it all the time. I'm fairly certain I can use it w/straight talk by swapping the SIM into it but I'm checking - I certainly won't get into a ripoff contract w/ ATT, Verizon or Sprint for many $$$ per GB. I use ST w/ my iPhone now and it's just fine - just want a bigger display and to be able to type easier (and use BIM 360 Glue).

Thankfully I still have the grandfathered "unlimited" plan.

Jeff, with the iPad you are allowed to pay by the month on whichever carrier the device has the radios for. You just enter your credit card info on the ipad and pay when you want to use it...
Scott, they may hassle you about unlimited data on the iPad... I know ATT is trying like hell to get our two iPhones off unlimited. |

Out of curiosity, how much data are you actually using?
I surf on my phone constantly and when I'm in the car all day I am frequently streaming music and downloading podcasts (50-100mb) at a time. I have the 3GB LTE plan and the most I've used is 2.7gb |

Can iPads be unlocked for different carriers like the iPhones can? If so it'd suggest I should go with AT&T since they're GSM at least (IIRC Sprint is CDMA). I wonder if I could just get an AT&T iPad and toss a Straight Talk SIM in it like I'm doing with my iPhone (at that point I'd consider porting my phone # to Skype and ditching the phone entirety). Many questions...

A lot. I have up to five real time financial/stock applications running two of those are news feeds as well with video. Then I always have my Sirius on as well. I run though more than 4gb per month currently.
