Need Hotel Recommendation for Munich
Hey guys, traveling to Munich later this month. Flying to Frankfurt and probably taking the train to Munich on a Sunday morning. Spending one night there before I meet a colleague Monday am for a week of business. Any hotel suggestions?
Not sure what our weeklong plans are, so probably won't have much time for fun stuff. Certainly not my first time to the EU and Germany in particular. Been there several times, but not Munich. Rick Lee and drcoastline what say you guys?

Try the Four Seasons. Good location, close to several sights.

What's the budget? If low, try one of the Motel Ones around Munich. They are trying to be hip and modern. Price was less than 100 euros last year. I would gladly stay there again.

If you want to be close to the train station (and just walk to your hotel) try the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost. It's trendy, great service, excellent food, not too expensive. If you have gobs of $ there is the Mandarin Oriental....way above my price range but I've always wanted to try one.

I will look later at the one I stayed at last August. It was just outside the Old Town and only 3 blocks from a beer garden. Perfect for walking when enjoying the big mugs of beer.

Hotel Königshof
Karlsplatz 25, 80335 München, Germany +49 89 551360 Only place I stay in Munich. 5 star. Book in advance and rates are very reasonable. 2 minute walk from the train station. Directly across the street from Karlsplatz which is the top of Nuehauser Strasse, the old city. That's where you'll find the beerhalls, St Michaels, and the Glockenspiel. There's also a great small toy museum as well. If you are only there for one night it's the perfect location to take in some of the more well known things to see. https://plus.google.com/115023799404113624496/about?gl=US&hl=en-US

Last year we stayed at some pension near the airport, as it was cheap and close to get Mrs. Lee there for her early flight home. Trip before that I think we stayed at a Holiday Inn not far from Olympia Park, but can't remember for sure. Parking in Munich SUCKS. If you're not familiar with Munich, a lot of the great pedestrian tourist stuff is very close to the train station. But, as you probably know, there can be a lot of riff raff around train stations in Europe. I just don't stay in fancy hotels in Europe, as I am usually staying with friends or on the go the whole day and night and only need a place to sleep and shower.
Kayak is pretty good for this stuff. If you book through Kayak and it's not a chain hotel, or ends up being a pension, be doubly sure they take credit cards or be sure to bring cash. I got a few nasty surprises in the Czech Rep. and Italy last year when I booked through Kayak, they said they took credit cards, but were cash only when I got there.

Just looked at my cheap airfare notices that also lists hotels. This looks pretty good and it's also downtown:

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I checked your suggestions and many of the hotels are already booked for that date. Interesting... Also was surprised at the cost - wow! Been awhile since I have priced European hotels in a major metropolitan area.

A number of years ago I was in Munich on business and stayed at a small gasthaus outside of the city and it was superb, as are most of the facilities and staying outside city center is usually less expensive.
