First step toward risk based health care premiums?

I take one look at the fat bastage in the next office who smokes and has a drinking problem and wonder why he pays the same health insurance premium as I do.

I like the idea of risk based insurance until genetics and family history creep into the conversation. I keep fit precisely because the the headwinds I'll encounter because of genetic makeup.

We (as in our representatives in Washington) are not only not going after them, they are aiding and abetting. We give corn subsidies to corn growers so they can sell cheaper and still make money, which leads to cheaper high fructose corn syrup, which competes with cane sugar, so we increase the subsidies for cane sugar. The result is neither sells for a real market price and sugar is one of the cheapest food ingredients available. Our farm subsidy programs are completely out of hand.

When you have your employer between you and the health insurance company you can blame all kinds of things on him - unfair, discriminatory, accessing personal information, blah, blah. If people wrote their own checks and saw that they could save $20 a month by losing 20 pounds they would be a lot more likely to take personal responsibility.

You'll be writing some bigger checks thanks to Obama Care. Some people just don't get it.

I agree with you on the subsidies though.

Remains to be seen. We don't have masses of people dying in the streets now - everybody's getting health care now somehow, and someone is paying now. Who??
The ACA looks like it may flush these shadowy cost shifting schemes out in the open - maybe.

Don't want to hijack the thread but ALL of America has been so blinded by the health care initiative's to changes. And thats exactly where the food producers want us to be focused on. The food consumption today per person is staggering. The farms are making a killing at the love of American fat. There's the core of it. America is eating themselves to death literally and financially. We can help ourselves physically, make changes in our diet, etc. but unfortunately not the financial cost.
