Just upgraded our router and modem here in AZ and clocking nearly 60mbps now...
![]() Curious what you guys are getting. With new technology I suspect a few of you will have gotten faster since 2013. |

I just ran speedtest from two laptops that I have in my home office. Both have similar hardware specs and both are running the same version of Linux. The only difference is the first is cabled to a gigabit port on a switch and the second is connected via WiFi on an 802.11g WAP.

My phone is a lot faster on my 4G vs my home wifi. That's sad.

![]() Well, I upgraded after my move. Also doubled the cost. At least the speed did more than double. I can't say I notice it being much faster. I'd still much rather pay $20, but the cable companies are getting wise. People quit watching TV and are streaming, so they all are hitting you hard on just the connection. Residential fibre, 100/100Mbit is ~30$ per month. We can get 1Gbit for 70$/month, but 100/100 is plenty enough (as majority of devices are wireless).

This is early in the morning when few in the neighborhood are on sucking down data as well.
![]() For this I pay $65 a month. Google Fiber just came to the area. Of course TWC came out and said everyone was going to get faster speeds for "Free" so I will bump up to 50Mbps (in theory) - I wish I would be in the Google Fiber area and get a 1gig for $70ish bucks or at least TWC would drop my price to a more reasonable cost.

Mine is only 2.0mps down, .5 upload and 95 ping.
But I knew that as I only pay for the basic throttled service, $45/month taxes in. I could upgrade to 5mps for $10 bucks more or 7mps for $20 more ($60+tax) I live in a very rural dead zone, so that is actually really good for us.

I think it's interesting. Imagine 5 years from now the cellular providers will be putting serious pain on Comcast and the like.

I was still on dial up until about 7 years ago, I'm in a rural valley that is a a total dead zone. even cell was spotty til that time. My connection is a WISP system, no cable out here. My nextdoor neighbour still has dial-up.
Funny thing is with no/low traffic I'm only 1 hour from the middle of Toronto.
