Unfortunately for the Italians, every stereotype you might have been able to conjure about the Italian legal system being corrupt or full of buffoons is reinforced by this case.

If i were Amanda Knox, I'd be watching Rick Steves on TV and calling that my trip to Europe, if she's smart she'll never leave the US.

Italy has a Napoleonic justice system, correct?

IIRC, under such a system, the judge and the prosecutor are one and the same, and the standard is "to find the truth" (as determined by the judge/prosecutor), not "beyond a reasonable doubt". The prosecuted can be compelled to testify against himself/herself and the judge/prosecutor has wide discretion to order anyone involved in the case to do anything, and may render a verdict when he/she feels the truth has been reached, which might before the defense has had a chance to do anything.

In short, from this link: Amanda Knox Retrial: What Could Happen?

Authorities suggested Kercher was killed by the trio during a sex game gone wrong. The prosecution alleged Knox tortured Kercher with a knife before cutting her throat, while Sollecito held Kercher down and Guede sexually assaulted her.

Knox was questioned for 50 hours over a four-day period following Kercher's murder. During police questioning, Knox initially said she was not in the apartment at the time of Kercher's murder. Later, she admitted she had been doing drugs and was confused. During further questioning, Knox said she was present at the time Kercher was killed, but implicated another person, Patrick Lumumba, in the murder.

According to Knox, Lumumba and Kercher had gone into the bedroom together and a short time later, she heard Kercher scream but was too afraid to do anything. However, not long after making this revelation, Knox retracted her statement and reverted to her original contention that she was not home.

You should read the link or other sources to find the details of the weakness of the prosecution's case.

If I were Amanda Knox, I would spend all day in my room with one hand in my pants and the other in my shirt.

If she were smart, she would get her affairs in order and very quietly take a permanent vacation to a country that does not have an extradition treaty with Italy. If she loses the appeal, she's going to be subject to extradition. It will be a political issue, not a legal one. And I wouldn't trust a politician, at all.

I don't know if she is guilty, or not. My wife read a book on the case and was left with the impression that she is not completely innocent. Having said that, I don't have any faith whatsoever in the Italian courts. They do things differently there and I think they have this expectation that someone has to be held accountable for everything bad that occurs. The fiasco surrounding ayrton Senna's death was the first look I had into their bizzaro world.

Is the guy that was convicted and imprisoned for the murder singing at the top of his lungs that Knox was involved?

Find a Caribbean island and live out her life in the sun. Write a "tell all" book.

I don't see her being extradited.

Her co-accused is still in Italy, he might not be so lucky.

The police just found her old boyfriend... was in a hotel in Italy near the Austrian border.

They picked him up and confiscated his Passport and Driver's License.

Apparently he's not officially under arrest, but was a 'flight risk'... no kidding.

Bet he's wishing he left BEFORE the verdict.
I've driven his route several times and you don't need a passport at all to travel between Italy and Austria. The only way they could possibly ID him along the way is if he used his own car or paid with a cc at the last toll booth in Italy. Though he'd still have made it to Villach before the police got to the border.
