Greetings from India.

Staying with wife's relatives in suburban New Delhi. Nice 3 bedroom condo in a private development. The differences between the haves and the have nots are even more stunning than in the past.

The development thats going on here is just not describable. You drive for 25 miles to the south, and its huge 30 story condo complexes going in everywhere. Housing for millions has been created in the past 10 years, and its actually accelerating. Drove by the new Buddh F1 track. Won't make it there this trip, but I could easily stay nearby for free, so perhaps in the future.

Like millions I have stood in the exact spot you and your family are as the picture was taken.

Please post your pictures here. While I have only spent two weeks in India, I saw and experienced quite a bit. The memories are vivid.

Great stuff.

Very cool, tx for posting. Bet you get to have some surprising adventures there traveling with local knowledge. Your daughter looks up for anything :-)

Have fun and keep us posted on your trip, you know how we love pics.

Cheers Richard

That has to be the understatement of the year.

My only experience is with the airport in Mumbai and the surrounding neighborhoods. I have never seen such a "hell on earth" as the conditions under which those people "live", if we can really call it that. Absolutely appalling, and maddening at the same time. It leaves one with less than no respect for the Indian people and the caste system under which they live. As a matter of fact, it kind of leaves one wishing the most gruesome, horrible death imaginable on the Indian people of any means, for allowing this in their country, and profiting because of it.

That, and India remains the only country to which we regularly deploy for which we have to undergo mandatory anti-corruption training (as in Federal Government mandatory through the India Anti-Corruption Act). How to recognize it, how to avoid it, how to report it (certainly not to the Indian authorities), and all of that. That just makes the place all the more special for us.

Hate to be such a downer, but that place just infuriates me, and your statement about the growing - rather than narrowing - divide between the classes really struck a chord. It is getting worse - and we are funding it.

I'm headed to Cabo tomorrow. My dad is already there and said he's been surprised by the poverty he's experienced so far. He's been to India a number of times for business and said Cabo is basically on the same level.

Yeah, Cabo is fine until you walk a block away from the gates of your resort. Repeat for all Mex resort towns.

Totally jealous of your trip, Harddrive. Take lots of pics to share with the classroom when you get back!

India is definitely the land of contrasts and wonder. I'll never forget my trip there as well.

I have been to a India a number of times over the past 4 years, all over India.

I agree with Todd, that could easily been any number of cities in China as well that I have visited.

Glad you are having fun HardDrive. I have enjoyed India mostly and have never been sick over there.

Bill

My neighbor showed me pictures of his daughter's wedding in India. It was incredible. They had several changes of custom made costumes, including gold jewelry, for the entire wedding party. It lasted several days. On the wedding night, they had a few dozen waiters. The event was at some sort of palace or resort. It looked like a royal wedding.
