I average 36 in my 2011 TDI JSW 6-speed and that is normal spirited mixed use driving. I'm usually hauling some car parts and the dog...maybe the sticky slobber reduces the aerodynamics. I have seen 48 on a couple freeway trips but it takes a little effort. Overall great cars...too bad there is not any real good competition for these things. My only complaints are from VW service/warranty and the blasted moon roof that rattles. If only the A3 TDI could be ordered with a manual transmission, I think the build quality on the interior is definitely better. I also like the size of the A3...JSW is too long and the Golf is too short.
