Map My Ride is a cool app and it's free.
I've never really used it before. Is it free forever? The free version provides all the info I need. Why pay for the upgrade?
My 1.5 hour ride today kicked my ass. Only 16 miles with 1200 ft elevation change. I've got to quit smoking. |

I have been on mapmyride for a while. Its a good app for tracking your rides and sharing routes. I tried riding a century and mapping the entire route but my phone battery died at mile 62. Check out user name speedracing944. That's me.

Will do, Speedy. Any way around the battery usage issue? On the short ride today, my fully charged iPhone battery drained down to 78%.

I use this app for my training rides, really great... I also bought a Bluetooth heart monitor which pairs with the app and I find that quite useful.
I have not tried sharing my routes etc, just track them within my phone. I have not had an issue with battery life... Are you leaving the screen on?

That's what it is. I do leave it on because I thought it would stop data collection if I press the top button and turn off the screen.

Nope, I press "start" and then close the app and it keeps on recording until I re-open and press stop.

The one thing you can't do, unless you pay, is print out the maps. I lead a lot of rides, so it helps to print out maps.

I use Garmin connect. It is not free, as you need a Garmin device to load up to it. But otherwise I am happy with the software. It is getting upgraded constantly. The statistics really keep me going and I put goals that I work towards every week.
