Need pricing input. 1986 Mercedes 560SL.
My elderly neighbor is looking at selling her 1986 Mercedes 560SL. She is the second owner. It has been garage kept and driven rarely. 70k miles.
Can you give me any guidance on pricing? They seem to range from $9k-$20k. What are premiums that drive up the prices with these cars?

Really depends on condition, even with 70k miles. Ebay is actually the best guide on values of those cars because they are so common. Just check completed auctions and you'll get a good idea. $20k is pretty much the top unless they have 5k miles and still have "new car smell". Most are in the $10k range if they're really nice, sometimes a little more.

My Dad recently sold his '89 560 SL to a guy who approached him outside the grocery store. Car had 86K miles, hard and soft tops, champagne color exterior and cream leather interior. Garage kept for the last 15 years. I would rate the car 9/10 in overall condition. $12K - I thought it was a killer deal for the buyer.

Chockaholic just picked a nice one up a few months ago, You could run your questions by him. I'd imagine he has some good insight by now.

Pictures? Does it have both tops?
A friend in Scottsdale sold hers for $10K a few years ago. Not sure of miles, but likely about 125K

Bought mine a few months ago and pretty happy with it. Not likely to be a good investment no matter what you pay. I don't think the 86/87 years are quite as strong as the later cars only because of the big, mid trunk third eye brake light on them. Assuming maintenance is up to date, straight, clean, honest car with clean interior and engine bay...I'd guess around $12k + or -.
