Hildago. Well not a "Western" but I really loved that movie. Based on a true story.
I also like Viggo Mortensen in Apaloosa, which was already mentioned. I especially liked the last chapter in that movie. |
McCabe and Mrs Miller (Robert Altman directs Warren Beatty)
Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch directs Johnny Depp) |
some of you guys love some awful westerns.:)

Quote:
plus Julie Christie and score by Leonard Cohen |
Open Range - Costner, Duvall
True Grit - both of them. |
two of my favorites:
one eyed jacks, with brando and karl malden the westerner, with gary cooper and walter brennan. why has nobody mentioned hopalong cassidy yet? bunch of young whippersnappers! |
Bert Lancaster/Katherine Hepburn in The Rainmaker
|
The comedy want to be epic: The Hallelujah Trail....always good for some laughs. Have not seen it in years but always over the top.

Almost forgot the western with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ann-Margret, The Villian. He had a gun called something like a seven shot six shooter.
Enjoyed it mainly for Margret. She had a lot of double entendres.:) |
How about
"Bad Day at Black Rock" with Spencer Tracey or "Ace in The Hole" with Kirk Douglas? |
Ride the High Country
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (as mentioned earlier) |
"A Man Called Horse"
One of my all time favourite movies..... <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qGu4Ycp655U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
"Little Big Man"
(Dustin Hoffman - one of the best actors of our time) <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xWGAdzn5_KU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
"Major Dundee"
(Directed by Sam Peckinpah, starring Charlton Heston, Richard Harris and James Coburn) <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5u3XGhYPshc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
"The Undefeated"
(with the Duke, Rock Hudson, and Roman Gabriel of the L.A. Rams) <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vLxmLKUfwsQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
"The Cowboys"
I hate that we lose "The Duke" in this and the other western, but they are both very very special films regardless.... <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gd4VAjNkY6E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Nobody likes The Wild Bunch? How about Lonely are the Brave with Kirk Douglas
Ride the High Country is awfully good Herr Oberst, those are not really westerns, IMHO |
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" - remarkable movie and one I never tire of watching - especially because of Newman and Katherine Ross.
