It was the right send off today. It was right for the Queen to attend and pay her respects. Not all heads of State would attend a PM's funeral, but Maggie was no ordinary PM.

Maggie was not just a political party leader, she was much more than that. The first woman to rise up and in the ranks of a man's world and ascend to the office of PM. Not only that she did a fantastic job and the world who loved her will never forget her.

The world expected Britain to give her a proper send off and the world appreciates Britain's homage to her.

I think I saw Dick Cheney, but I'm not sure he was 'sent' by your government.

Oh, and Henry Kissenger was there.

London was in lockdown today.

Here you go...

GEORGE Bush Snr turned down Barack Obama’s personal plea to represent the US at Lady Thatcher’s funeral, The Sun can reveal.
America’s 41st president is staying at home to help his son — the 43rd president — open his presidential library.
George W. Bush has also refused his official invite, along with the two other living ex-leaders Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
The Sun revealed yesterday that President Obama is not coming himself — and is not sending a senior member of his administration either.
The President is staying in Washington to push gun control laws through Congress, diplomatic sources said.
Instead, he is sending ageing former Secretaries of State George Shultz, 90, and James Baker, 82, who worked with Lady Thatcher in the 1980s.
Anger at the White House’s embarrassing snub was growing in Westminster last night.
Senior Tory MP and Lady Thatcher’s former parliamentary aide Sir Gerald Howarth said: “Given the extraordinary bond between Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, which helped to end the Cold War and liberate millions, it’s very disappointing the present administration doesn’t feel able to send a representative.”
It also emerged last night that Argentina is not sending its ambassador, and France’s Socialist government will not be sending a serving minister.
Other leaders to refuse their invites include King Constantine of Greece and German leader Angela Merkel.
Putting a brave face on the Obama snub, a spokesman for PM David Cameron said: “The seniority of the US dignitaries, including two former secretaries of state with whom she worked closely, is testament to her global stature.”

Tanick,

I bet that there's more to this than meets the eye on the Bush senior not going.

I heard an interview from a woman whose father was a coal miner. She was very happy to pay homage to Maggie. Apparently, her family moved on from the inefficient business of coal and into a more lucrative line of work. No, she did not say it was easy.

Don't know much about GHW Bush. Is he ill or did he hate her? I don't remember ever seeing them together, even during the first Gulf War. She was Reagan's babe. Did their 'reigns' cross. Maggie resigned in Nov 90. I remember quite clearly the moment I heard - I was in a Nuclear Physics lecture and was lucky enough to be being taught by Nobel prize winner Prof Sir Harry Kroto. My best friend said she felt sorry for Maggie and was hooted with derision by the rest of the class.

Surprised there has been no comment about the grand-daughter's reading - Amanda Thatcher reading at Margaret Thatcher's funeral ceremony - YouTube
