The Place Behind the Pines - a movie review
Wow.
This is a great movie. I totally recommend it. The opening scene (single take, steady-cam shot?) is unreal, worth the price of admission. The storyline dodges and weaves. Edgy from start to finish. The supporting actors are phenomenal. Ben Mendelsohn, what an act! The celebratory scene with the swaying dog - hilarious. How about the moving camera crane shots on the winding country roads? Dunno how they accomplished this. Some of the editing fades are mesmerizing. Disclaimer: I was not necessarily a Bradley Cooper, nor a Ryan Gosling fan, till this movie. |

I don't quite agree. It was more like 3 movies smooshed together, and not great ones at that. It did hold my interest. Of the crop of truly mediocre movies out at the moment, it's in the upper quintile. But that's not saying much.
