racing is life some say
and then sometimes it really is ![]() This was his last race win. I can only imagine how hard it was for his dad to make this video.

Thax for posting. Today would have been Kenny's 13th Birthday.
No judgements, but not sure how I'd handle this if I was a father that got his son into racing. Regardless, very sad.

This was a tough loss for the California race family. Eric and his son were very tight, and Kenny was well liked at the track, and faster than hell. Tragic.

IMO parenting is one of life's greatest challenges. Do we keep them safe and steer them to calmer waters or support their passion with potential doom. Sad video - I can't imagine what the family is going through, grief, possible regret/responsibility for supporting the racing, joy for celebrating the boy's passion. Ultimately we all have our choices to make.

Thought not a follower of the motorcycle racing scene, a cyclist (bicyclist) friend has youngsters who race. Saw her posts about Kenny when he was first hurt and in the hospital. I followed the posts from the family, friends, and a very extended racing community. Found myself crying when it ended and wished that I could be there to support the family physically (a hug, a shoulder, an errand - anything)...
What a remarkable family and an incredible talent. RIP young man. angela

Kind of torn on this; obviously he was a great talent and I assume he loved racing, that said, motor racing is a death sport and increasingly so the faster you go. It's a lot safer to be one of the slower guys out there.
I have a friend with a son the same age, (maybe younger), who is climbing fast in motocross racing. Of all the sports and activities for a child to get into, this seems like about the most expensive, dangerous and time consuming one I can imagine. I don't get it. Sad as hell that he died. ![]()

I quit racing a month or so after I lost a friend to a life of paralysis via a pile-up at turn 1.

Sad. My first novice race at Texas World Speedway in 1989 had a fatality. I stuck with it though and was bucked off many times but thankfully no lasting injuries. I never understood how racers with family that depended on them could go all out in turns with walls, etc.

I road raced motorcycles with the AFM for six years and had two friends die at Sears Point and one friend get paralyzed (later committed suicide) there. That was enough for me. I still miss it though.....
I was at the pointy end of the pack so I was always putting it all out there on the line. Being on the edge like that all the time as a 40+ year old racing a bunch of kids, 18 to 30 years old mostly, was not the best thing for your health. I walked away pretty much in one piece. The only injury of note is a permanently dislocated right thumb and I hardly ever notice that. I had a lot of fun..... Scott |
