Windows 7 advice
No longer have Vista and have upgraded to 7....kill me now.
I have an error flag telling me to "Open Action Center" insert the removable media. It doesn't detect my external hard drive, any SD card or writable CDs. All work correctly, I usually just drag and click anything that I want to save of the laptop. Any idea on how to get rid of the red flag on my tool bar? It's right next to my battery meter.

Win 7 comes with a set of generic drivers the will work right off the bat but may, in some instances, not provide all the bells and whistles that the OEM drivers provide. So, the trick is to go get the manufacturer's drivers and all your functionality should return. In your case, it looks like your USB bus drivers.
If you have a Dell, go to support.dell.com and plug in the "service tag" found on the underside of the laptop. Then navigate to the Downloads page. At that point, expand to look at ALL the drivers. BTW, wrong forum...

You just want to get rid of the little flag that always shows up telling you the Action Center has found an issue? I hate that thing. I have Windows 8 so I cant verify it myself right now, but I believe that when you open the Action Center you can click on settings and just disable the specific areas that you don't want it to notify you about problems.
Also, if you just want to disable the action center icon completely just go to your Control Panel and look for System Icons, you may need to select something like "All Control Panel Items". Click on System Icons and you should have the clock icon, network icon, etc and you'll see the Action Center icon there too. Just select 'off' in the dropdown. You should be able to customize all system tray icons from there too and decide whether they are shown all the time or not shown at all or only shown if there's a notification. |

Sent you PM, I had same nag flags after 'upgrade' to WIN 7, and got it fixed. Maybe use a Porsche thumb drive, and then you'd be on topic maybe? :-)

IME, the only way to "upgrade" a MS operating system is to back up your data files, wipe the drive, and install fresh from scratch.
On the other hand, I've had Debian installs that have upgraded several -stable versions with no issues, only dying eventually due to hardware failures.

Thanks for the advice. I turned the "service off".....my backups will be with my external HD and drag and click. Took a few boots and clicks in more than one area. They didn't make it easy.
I have bupkis in this laptop and I will recycle it when it fails. Saving the OS or the other programs? Screw it. ![]() I did it in the parking lot in my Porsche via a pirated WIFI......waiting for them to fill my PCar parts order... ![]()
