When the doctor asks "do you have any guns in your home", how will you answer?

A coworker just went in for a routine check-up today and was asked this question. He's been going to the same doctor for eight years, and said it was mixed in with the normal routine questions asked by the nurse prior to seeing the doctor. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so how did you answer?

Personally I see this as a huge invasion of privacy and in no way relevant to my medical care. It is also disturbing how that information could be used, considering the recent mixing of government and health care. I'm a solid no to that question, I have no desire to provide any information about what I do and do not have in my home to someone that has no business knowing.

The answer is "no". No one said you have to tell the truth.

I'd get up, walk out, and refuse to pay the bill. Anything less encourages this bull$h!t.

Why on earth would a doctor ask this? Does being a gun owner increase/decrease stress levels? Thats the only thing I can think of.

Not that I agree with the question but it may be something to consider when prescribing certain meds.

One of my failed attempts at giving up the cancer sticks involved Chantix.

That **** made me roid rage angry 24/7.

As a Doc I might want to know that before writing a scrip for meds that, as the commercials say, "may increase suicidal tendencies".

It was asked in the form when I did my last check up. I can not wait to start working and just asking them, "What do you think?"

There are two gun dealers within 100' of my doctor's office. I doubt my doc will be asking this question anytime soon.

AaaaaHa! Easy!

The nurse was a gun moll; most nurses are, but, previously, few of them admitted to it.

They're becoming more and more brazen when it comes to asking to see a male patient's gun (the lesbian gun moll nurses are more interested in female patient's holsters).

If the doctor knew such shenanigans were being pulled by his/her nurse, he/she would likely be shocked...or titillated.

Once, many years ago when I was still a young man, a very attractive young blonde nurse (I think she was a libertarian), prior to the doctor entering the room, pulled my shenanigan.

I'll never forget that.

I suspect it is one of the metrics tracked using the federally mandated electronic health record.

Do you smoke, drink, when did you last see your primary care doctor,do you like movies about gladiators, how many guns do you own? You know, the regular stuff
