Slow it down

Why do people leave a long, laborious, rambling voice mail and then suddenly start speaking faster than a teenage girl on speed when they recite their 10-digit phone number? Why?

That's why you have caller ID.

I'm guilty of that. I heard a voice mail I left someone, and now I repeat the phone number.

Part of my job is to call in utility crews after hours. I have to leave everyone who doesn't answer the phone a voice message & document it so they can't file a union grievance that they missed overtime. I speak so fast, I doubt they can understand what I say. I probable average 30 voicemails per call out. I dread the long country music ringtone, followed by an even more annoying voice greeting the most.

I really wish the phone companies would streamline the voice messaging system, does anyone use any of the prompt options? The message for them takes longer than the the greeting. I rarely leave voicemails when off duty.

This thread needs to be added to the latest pet-peeve thread.

That said, if you can't express what you called for in 10 seconds or less, your message deserved to be deleted.

I really hate it when the cadence of the phone number is all wrong. I had a message the other day that was at stupid speed and she said the call back number was 55-5555-55-55

On my cell phone message I tell people to "Leave a message and keep it short."
