I Know that I'm no Jack Olsen
So, While I'm looking for work and taking care of my wife who has had some health issues I've been working in the garage between interviews, Dr. visits, Vet visits and other fun things of life.
I've bought some parts cabinets and striped and repainted them but there's far too much BLACK Yes, you're seeing some early pics but I'm at a loss on what I should do. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yes, I think I should take that black car out of your garage.

![]() In this cabinet I'll keep all of my Air tools and drill press goodies. This will be finished up and also sets the drill press at a decent work height. Yes everything is bolted down.

I'm no Jack Olsen either.
Your garage looks damned clean compared to mine. |

I think it looks an excellent garage already, and you are so close to being a Jack Olsen it doesn't matter. But I do know what you mean about the black. I'm doing a renovation job at the moment and the hall was always dark. Now it is painted white there is so much light bouncing around it's great. I was going to put in a solar tube sort of skylight but it doesn't need it now.

Looks like you've got some decent empty wall space. I like to put a bunch my tools up pegboard on the walls. I put (sort of) specialty tools & tools I use occassionally up on pegboard. I have my usual tools in rollaways. Ignore the stuff piled on the workbench.

Buy some 3M Di-Noc vinyl. Comes in most any wood/metal/stone finish known to man. Applies easily and makes a huge difference. Hard to tell it's "fake" until you are touching it.

Yup, been thinking of wrapping with some colored tape to try and find the right color combo

I too think they look pretty good. The black is a little mottled so another coat may help even out the finish. Although that may be the photo. That being said I would have painted them red to match the tool box with some silver hardware or perhaps a vertical silver stripe where the doors come together with a silver handle in the stripe.
Here are a few refrigerators painted to match a tool box for some ideas. ![]() ![]() ![]() Just my .02 ![]() |

Love the red fridge! I have all red new cabinets and a white fridge. Never thought about painting it. Great idea!

Things most appreciated in my garage that might help:
LIGHT! I have four dual bulb 8' fluorescent lights in my garage, and might add one or two more. I also replaced my garage door with one that has windows, huge difference. Nothing on the floor. I did shelving up high on each side to get stuff off of the floor, it makes walking and sweeping so much easier. I just used prefinished Formica shelving from a home improvement store and L brackets, cheap, easy, and looks good.

Ikea has these and I can see adding 2-3 over the workbench and 1 -2 over the drillpress. I need to see if JoeBob can photoshop some White logos onto the black doors to suck up some of the darkness.
