Tip a Surgeon?

This surgeon doesn't work on any issues for me. He seems very competent, steered me correctly through many turns in the road, even tho he is not a car guy. He got me a healthy bottle of wine that he makes.

Is it appropriate to tip a surgeon? (I know that med. school and residence is a lot more of PIA than law school - on par with graduate school in biology but with the stigma of a high salary.)

Sorry if the question is goofy, but we've never dealt with a situation like this (most of the surgeons I know are former students, relatives, or were colleagues in college or afterwards - this guy isn't). I have developed a good friendly relationship with the surgeon, and have nice dinners at one of our best restaurants periodically with him and his oncological radiologist wife (along with some software geeks and others). I don't plan to pay for their dinners (tho I do enjoy the occasional backrub from his very attractive wife).

Is getting together for dinner enough thanks, or should I be doing something a bit more?

I kind of think having dinner with him seems to be enough of a good gesture.

That brings up a further thought. Should you tip your proctologist... if he doesn't use the whole fist?

Is he your driving instructor? Is he picking up the check when you go out for dinner?

Are you serious? Do you think that the medical folks need more cash? Buy a meal? Maybe shine his shoes? On what planet do you live? I'm sure he was paid for his efforts. Unbelievable.
Yes, give him a 15 percent tip.
