Iron Man Stunt and CCW?
So I saw this:
Movie theater publicity stunt results in police response What if someone was carrying and shot this guy? Justified? Certainly after the fact would have sucked, but think of how wrong this could have gone. Ever since I was a kid I knew you shouldn't yell fire in a crowded theater. This is much, much worse.

Stupidity knows no bounds. Hopefully that "manager" is back to something he can manage...like pouring sodas and scooping popcorn. Wow!

Unless I'm mistaken Missouri does allow CCW... no one shot this guy.

Scroll down and check out the top-rated comment on that article...this may be another case of the media blowing something small way out of proportion. If the guy wearing all-black with the gun came in with a group of other people dressed like characters in the Ironman movie, I don't really see anything wrong with that.

Another reason I don't go to the movies. How did they get someone to even dress up and do this? Couldn't have paid me anything to do that. He'd be full of holes and dead before he hit the ground if that was in AZ.

You know that might be the case in L.A. too. I'm talking cops.

Nah. They'd shoot the wrong people, like women in dresses, in the wrong theatre...

From that first comment on the article, it seems like it was pretty obvious to most all those who were there what it was supposed to be, with many of the characters dressed up, not just the 'agents' and all the guns were obvious toy guns.
So, to the OP's question, if someone with a CCW would have freaked and shot one of the actors.... then... they'd be A) going away for voluntary manslaughter and B) an idiot. Not saying the people who thought up the idea of the promo weren't idiot's, either. Totally dumb. Who needs that at a movie theater anyway? When I goto the movies I go in, sit down, watch movie, leave. I need to see nothing else. Nothing. I couldn't care less if there was any other things going on at a movie theater other than a dark room with a big screen showing the movie I went to watch.

Pretty stupid considering recent events. Though I'm pretty sure my CCW doesn't allow me to just shot people "because they looked like they were up to no good". You don't pull unless you intend to fire, and you don't fire unless there is an imminent threat to your life, or the life of someone else.

Your CCW doesn't ever allow you to shoot anyone. It allows you to carry a sidearm. But even states without CCW laws have justified deadly force laws. And most of them have language to the effect that "if a reasonable person would believe death or grave bodily injury were imminent." That's all you need.
I sure wouldn't want to shoot someone if they were no threat. And maybe we need a photo of what this character looked like and if he was carrying a pink and green water spray gun or something that looked more like a real, modern s/a rifle. I've never seen Iron Man or any previews, so I have no idea what the characters or costumes are supposed to look like. Open carry is legal and common around here. But given recent events, if you saw someone carrying a rifle into a movie theatre, the "reasonable person" clause is being heavily tread upon and it's a dangerous situation for everyone.

Yeah, we took it seriously, I hope they paid those baddies well as we gave 'em hell. We took 'em down hard, and took the magazines off their revolvers before they knew what hit 'em. For some reason, the detectives didn't respond when we told 'em where the baddies were, and that'd they'd be easy to get as they couldn't shoot anymore. With "the law" not doing anything, it was time for strike 2... After that they went hiding up in the women's restroom, but yeah, we still found 'em again. ![]() Anyway, as an adult, if I see some one with a gun, I'm not going to just automatically want to shoot them... We have a bit too much fear mongering going on.

Again, what the article fails to mention is that the guy in the swat team outfit was with a bunch of others, one of which was in an ironman suit.

Maybe the author of that article deserves a round through the laptop.
