Definitely a sushi snob...

Won't buy or eat supermarket sushi...

Drives my wife crazy...

If the chef doesn't cut it, make it, and hand it to you it is not "fresh".

Sorry

But even those, I keep covered/garaged as much as possible, never take to car shows, never talk about, and keep as low profile as possible.
So why have the cars? Don't mean to call this out, but I guess I've seen these types of comments on the Pelican boards over the past decade and it's always confusing. Obviously, the people that own these types of high-end cars are the types of people that own these types of cars or they wouldn't own them. I'm not saying you should park them on your lawn on display, but I don't see any harm in sharing the car enthusiasm with like-minded people. And no, I don't wear P-car T-shirts or stuff like that, but I do think it's cool if you do and you're enjoying the ownership experience.

Oh, and I think you don't like "high-end," but instead "very high-end": Gibson, Ducati, Porsche, FERRARI....

In defense of good sir McLovin...

My friend bought a Datsun 1600 roadster, joined the club, went to events, showed it off to his friends.

I bought a 944, stuck it in the garage and drove the snot out of it on the weekends... didn't really mention it or brag to any of my friends of family.

Just different strokes...

I would own a Ferrari if I could, I just am cursed with filet mignon taste and a McDonald's budget.

No defense of McLovin needed - I see his point. I just find the topic interesting since this is a "Are you a snob" thread. This, "I own these things, but I don't want anyone to know I own these things because they might get the wrong impression of me" views are fascinating. There might be a little snobbery when those same folks (And just to be clear, I'm not saying this is McLovin's view) look down on those that are actually out enjoying their stuff. I'm not talking about the bragging, in-your-face type with the "2HOT4U" plates - there's always that component. I mean folks who enjoy the car hobby and like to share it with others.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not too into events, and clubs and such, but I can see how it's fun. After 12 years of owning Porsches I've finally joined the PCA club and am having a good time.

I'm an air snob. I like mine with just over 20% oxygen, and about 78% nitrogen.

I've often thought a bit about this. As I and my family are rolling down the highway in our 1978 Sportscoach motorhome (totally refurbished but still very 70's looking, paid for) pulling our home built 4 place trailer with 4 mid 90's to mid 00's Honda atvs on it, paid for, heading to a recreation destination. We see others in the latest diesel truck pulling a huge toy hauler with the latest and greatest quads etc. Is their weekend going to be any better than ours because of the price of their stuff? Or are the experiences going to be the same? I don't look on them with envy, but I have sure been looked down on a time or two. Bear in mind credit would allow us to have the latest and greatest, we just choose to live off pay as you go. I do enjoy the latest technology and often tell myself in a couple of years when that whatsit starts coming down in price it's going to be great. Is the p-car owners track day experience so much better than a Datsun owners? Or is it perceived value we attatch to things?

I am. I dont do trendy, especially burnt bean $5 a mini cup of coffee trendy and generally have a lower opinion of people that do trendy because it is trendy. Now if it is good and happens to be trendy that's a different reason.

I'd be a snob if I had anything to be a snob about, but I think I am the person that allows others to feel superior.

I'm a lightweight snob.

Most peoples idea of a lightweight car build comes no where near to what I consider to be lightweight.

Sorry I can't help it as its just a result of my upbringing

snob
/snäb/
Noun
A person with an exaggerated respect for high social position who dislikes people or activities regarded as lower-class.
A person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people: "a wine snob".

Ok there might be a snobbish gene in there somewhere. I suppose I am sort of a Warren Buffett type snob. I tend to buy quality and good value and hold it for a very long time. I shoot for 90% of the performance at 10% of the price. I really try not to judge others choices but sometimes it just squirts out... My bad. And I drive a used Boxster

Coffee: Appreciate a good bold cup that I brew at home, never buy Starbucks.
Beer: Simple tastes but I do prefer European Pils.
Wine: Appreciate a complex $100 bottle of French wine but would never buy one. Lot's of quality Calif wines for $10-$15.
Cars: Porsche, Lexus, Toyota, Chevy that I buy used.
Guitars and amps: American made, tubes, always bought used and cheap.
Consumer electronics: Apple, Yamaha, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung

I guess i'm starting to become a German automobile snob. I have a Porsche, my wife drives a 02 BMW 325ci convertible, my daughter drives a 03 VW Jetta, and my wife's old car....a 97 VW Cabrio is waiting for my 14 year old son, and oh BTW, they are all 5 speeds.

Other than that, I am just a regular Joe who shops for bargains, wears whatever is comfortable, and will eat just about anything and enjoy the experience.
