usb3 memory sticks vs a SSD/HD

I have noticed usb3 memory sticks are cheaper then the same volume in a SSD/Hd esp in a 32g or 64 or even 128g a stick
like about 1/2 cost per G

and the claim to run near the same max speeds sata3 = 6G , usb3 = 5G
but max is not real world data transfer rates

but MS in windoz 7 or earlier copy protection will not allow the OS to be run from a usb[1-2-3] memory stick
w8 may work [but I donot like w8] do to the timing of the usb drivers loading

do SSD's use the same or a different memory type then the usb3 sticks ?
can linix or other O/S run off a memory stick is stead of a HD/SSD
could several usb3 sticks be used to get more storage at the same time
can a game or other program live on a memory stick [only plugged in when in use]
with out taking up SSD/HD space ?
is there a way to get all new data to only go on a memory stick and NOT on to a SSD/HD
leaving only the O/S on the HD and never anything else ?

I like the idea of useing different O/S's with a simple memory stick swap
and having a totally eazy removable device with all my data on it

are there any other type of non-usb memory sticks for firewire, thunderbolt, or sata3 ?
that could allow a w7 boot from the stick ?

a short search seems to indicate that Win7 can be run from a thumb drive:

How to Install and Run Windows 7 from USB Flash Drive

edit:

and here:

http://www.wikihow.com/Create-Bootable-Windows-7-Thumb-Drive

this seems much simpler.

AV Linux - Install...Create...

it comes pre-configured with SEVERAL audio and video software programs for creating/editing/producing. it is also a really nice version that runs well and fast.
