JoeA

I picked up a 6 watch winder from a watch maker's supply company for $250. Not pretty but works great.

And for the ultimate in bling that makes the statement that you are a bad boy who drives hot cars...a BRM chrono! Sorry this is only a link...I evidently need to go to cut & paste school.

Here's a couple other old ones that I've hadhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1141192162.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1141192179.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1141192280.jpg

lateapex911 02-28-2006 08:54 PM

not working, sorry!

campbellcj 02-28-2006 09:53 PM

I still wear my 1996 "Bond" Seamaster Pro almost daily and it still looks and works great... I would wear the Speedmaster Moon watch a lot more if it didn't have an acrylic crystal. I try to wear it it out whenever I'm meeting with my NASA customer type people as a conversation starter. Definitely an Omega fan (although I 'only' have 3).

Curses on whoever revives this thread from time to time (sic) as the big 4-0 birthday is coming up and I don't need any more temptations re. exorbitant presents for myself... I still think a Zenith would be cool, though.

The Omega Seamaster Pro (and the Sinn, among others) seems to walk that fine line with me. When my pay hits 7 figures, I'll be wearing the Rolex because then it will fit my lifestyle and it won't make me self concious. Great watches. I envy those of you who can pull it off.
Some might think along the same lines for your Porsche. I say screw them, buy what you like. If you like Rolex, buy it for yourself, do not worry about what someone else thinks. BTW Rolex is cheap compared to some other mech watches and especially compared to a Quartz Tag or even Casio.

You're absolutely right on all points Alfred. It's just a mindset I am stuck in. I've loved 911s ever since I was a kid and it took me 41 years to buy one of those! Lots of time lost there.

I'm not too worried. The GMT Master doesn't stand out as looking as "Rolex" as most others. And I'm not a big fan of wrist weights, so I'll be going with a leather strap.

But as someone else said, screw what anyone else thinks.

I have to say Ebay was a cool place to pick up some watches for a bit. Money was short, and the watches might not have been brandy new and perfect, they were fine (esp if buying vintage like I do, LOL) for wearing then selling to try something new.

So many watches............so little time!

Rick Lee 03-01-2006 02:49 PM

Jake, your old Breitling is awesome! I guess you can still buy them with confidence on eBay since they were made before people could really make perfect fakes.

lateapex911 03-01-2006 03:08 PM

True! And you can't fake the patina too well either. And some of those neat old watches are only a few hundred. And of course, there are tricks to buying on ebay, which aren't as effective as in the good old days of the 90s, LOL.

alf 03-01-2006 09:30 PM

The 90s on ebay was a bonanza. I was picking up Cal 321 Omega Speedmasters for $500 to $600 weekly. Got one of each year from 1960 to 1970 at one point. Then grad school happened and i sold them all for about $1000 each...now they are $1500+ if you could find them :(

Rick Lee 07-14-2006 07:42 AM

Let's revive this again.

Here's my latest one.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152891726.jpg

But I am lusting after a Sinn now. I will have one. I wish they were easier to find in the US. I may have to wait until I go to Europe next. If anyone here is selling one, keep me in mind.

pwd72s 07-14-2006 09:57 AM

Guess I like to keep things simple...but all these watch threads got me inspired enough to buy this:

Among other inspirations, this thread and other watch threads on Pelican got me thinking about getting a "nice" watch.

This arrived today:

Seamaster for the seahawk. That works!

TomTurtle 07-14-2006 11:21 AM

I'm a big fan of Sinn! Found a 356 with sapphire crystal on eBay and bought the stainless bracelet from the US distributor - wear it almost every day! Very easy to read and not too big (around 38mm). I bought a 656 on eBay and gave it to my son for Christmas - he loves that one too.

Now I'm dying to get a Sinn. There are maybe 10 on eBay now. I'll check out the German eBay.
