As I understand the Tissot and Hamilton T-Touch work the same. You push the center button on the side then tap the crystal with your finger in the appropriate corner to activate the function. In the compass function the hands of the watch go opposite to each other and point to north like the needle of a compass. I downloaded the manual from the Hamilton website. Still haven't figured how the altimeter, thermometer, barometer works but working that out is part of getting a new toy!

Alf, that old Hanhart is the real deal, very nice. Look at the wear on the crown!!! That watch has patina!

I have a 17 year old Tag / Heuer Quartz divers watch (not that fancy, I know) - but it was my high school graduation gift, so it has sentimental value.

The date stopped working about 6 months ago (it moves - but at something greater than 24 hour intervals - like 27 or so) - so the date keeps creeping back.

Is it possible to fix such a thing? What might it cost? I assume they would just replace the entire quartz movement. I would not mind giving it to my son someday - so it would be worth it to me to spend a couple hundred on it.

Oh - and one more thing. Is there anywhere in the NYC / NJ area to see the Sinn watches? They seem sweet - but I fear they may be huge.

Re: Tag repair - I'd google "Tag Heuer repar" and see what pops up locally. Tags are very popular and I'm sure there is repair available. If nothing else, go to a good store that sells Tag and ask them for recommendations.

Re: Sinn watches - as far as I know the only place I've seen (outside of eBay) that sells Sinn is: http://www.watchbuys.com/Sinn.htm. I think they are on the east coast but not sure; maybe if you call them they have a physical location you can visit. As far as size, the watchbuys web site provides good pics/dimensions. IMHO anything over 40mm can get hefty; I personally like watches around 37-38mm at the largest.

Tom - thanks for the reply. Nice collection too!

I did later google up a place not too far that should do a repair - I will give them a call. At one point I was told it was "not worth it" to have it fixed. I think the person may have been biased - he was on the other side of the watch case.

The Sinn's seems to provide great value - I'll just need to find one to try on - or at least a different watch of a similar size. I am not a terribly large person (155 lbs) - I don't want to look like an 8 year old kid wearing his dad's watch, LOL.

IMO, its worth it to you if the watch means something to you. I received an old Benrus (with one of those Spiedel twisty bands) from my dad's estate; it cost me more than it was "worth" to get it into good working condition and I wear it a lot because of the sentimental value.

It's really interesting how older watches are so much smaller than today's watches; so maybe you should look in that direction too. I have somewhat narrow wrists, but I think you could try on any 38mm watch to get a feel of how it feels to you ("38mm" is the diameter of the watch not counting the stem or about 1 1/2 inches) and either go up or down from there; many modern watches are 40mm plus and for the last few years the trend has been toward going even bigger. Generally, the wider the watch, the thicker it will be, so you have to be aware of that too. Good luck on your search!

Agree with Tom. Does not matter what the watch is worth, it matters what the watch is worth to YOU. Get it fixed and enjoy it.

Too many cases the guy on the other side of the counter was trying to make himself happy by selling a new watch rather than keeping the customer happy with the watch he brought for a repair.

My Mom gave me this bizarre Seiko on my 16th B-day. I just found it. Things like having a TV set on your wrist. I thought it was the coolest thing ever back in the day.



My Dad gave me his old Seiko Diver the other day. Like the above Seiko, it weighs about 80 pounds. I really like it though.



Another one of my Dad's retired watches. I'm not one for Roman numerals, but I like this one.
