Well, I have not driven from Seattle to Columbus but I have driven too many times to count from Leavenworth to Milwaukee, WI.

If it was a different time, I would ride shotgun with you and we could make that trip in 48 hours. Drop down below Chicago, do not go thru, it will slow you down, try to time going thru the outskirts in late evening or early morning.

Have fun

I don't mean to pry, but why wouldn't you take your daughter with you?

I did the drive you are contemplating (in reverse - I started from Md) with my son when he was seven. We did it in a 1990 Toyota truck...slow but steady.

We still talk about that trip (among many others), Lolo pass, finding the real Lewis and Clark Trail, the best Holiday Inn Express on the planet (Lewiston, Id), the drive through the Black Hills, etc.

Blue Highways, as Angela said, with your child is goodness.

Seriously, why are you even asking this? It's a complete no brainer.

porsche4life 06-18-2013 12:49 PM

What are ya? A puzzy?

No brained dude, will be a fun trip!

Did Tacoma to Winnipeg in my new-to-me '85 Carrera in 2010. It was a great trip.

Can't think of a reason not to do a long road trip in a 997. Seems to me like a pretty ideal grand tourer.

Me too. I've driven lots of long miles in my '88. A 997 would be absolute luxury with every convenience.

onlycafe 06-18-2013 04:41 PM

do it.
as for the hypothetical,
what could go wrong?

by the way, you will need some coke too!

just avoid bat country.

That's the first thing I thought. AC and cruise? Do it.

No Brainer!!!! I went LA to Regina SK solo in my SC....Wonderful!!! Four days gives you a chance to relax and enjoy the drive! I did mine with just one overnight stop. Do it....there will be no regrets.

Laneco 06-18-2013 05:05 PM

Come on - DO IT!!! Life is short, find the adventures!

Besides... You wouldn't want a girl to show you up would you? ;)

rouxroux 06-18-2013 06:31 PM

What the hell were they built for anyway? Driven, not polished...get on the road.

9dreizig 06-18-2013 06:37 PM

I've driven my 930 from NH to Reno via NC (that's the comfy one) and driven the other 930 (full cage) from Reno to NC and Back (with a labradoodle in the co-pilot seat),, jesus just do it !!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371605852.jpg

I've done two laps of America and two cross country drives in 356s (no AC, no cruise control). I can't say I never had problems in the 20,000+ cross country miles, but I'd do it again tomorrow.

It would be perfectly fine.

I serviced my Boxster S and did a track day at Willow Springs big 3 days before leaving on my 24-hour straight drive, drove around the midwest for a week before going back to LA totalling over 4000 miles of driving, and then went and did another track day at Willow springs the week after, and I didn't touch any part or fluid on the car the whole time.

It did have a cracked CV boot I found afterwards, and it probably was like that the entire time.

A great song for the daytime, and here's one for the darker hours:

"I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed"

David McLaughlin 06-18-2013 07:09 PM

I would do another drive in a heart beat!

'73 914 LA to Boston, 3200 miles, 65.5 hours with two drivers. Two rest stops and one chat with LEO included.

HardDrive 06-18-2013 07:12 PM

Done! I'm doing it.

Route ideas?

Don't miss the Beartooth Hwy (out my back door), Yellowstone and Tetons. Its out of your way but worth it. You can be our guest if you head that way. Once you get past Billings, MT, well, there isn't much left to see :)

porsche4life 06-18-2013 07:45 PM

Nice to see that peer pressure still works... ;)
