Obesity is now officially a disease.
This is not going to end well. Ninety million people are obese in this country.
Shouldn't someone tell these people they are obese before declaring it a disease. AMA declares obesity a disease - latimes.com |

Fat is the new thin.
Almost any given time, there are more fat people in the room than thin people.

I can't help but think of the Simpsons episode where Homer purposely eats himself to obesity so he can go on disability.

Congratulations, for being a slovenly slob, who has over-eaten yourself into an unhealthy down spiral that leads to conjestive heart failure and stroke, we (Government) are going to reward you with a free pass to stay at home and decrease your activity !?

It is to the point where if you are normal weight then the fat person thinks you are sick because you are thin. Apparently surgeons have more trouble operating on fat people because of the fat. You would think that with being overweight and the increased risk of diabetes that the fat person would be scared s--tless because of the risk of amputation of limbs due poor circulation etc. Apparently not!

Over 40 victim of fate

Part of the problem is their definition of obese. The standard must have been made just to encompass most of the population so the people that made it could justify their jobs and get more grant money to support their operations.
They call me borderline overweight/obese. I am a life long gym rat. I maintain 10%-12% body fat.

Now if they said this reclassification would lead to funding to figure out what is in our food chain which causes obesity and behavioral changes in consumption, we might have some hope. However, it looks like they want to treat the symptoms and not treat the causes once again. One of the forum members moved to Austria a few years ago, lost a bunch of weight and his health problems went away. Explained that everything he eats is grown or raise within 10 miles of his house, and there is no organic classification because everything is organic. When the organic food industry gets as rich and influential as the medical associations and food processors, we might stand a chance in this country.

Polio is a disease. Lupus is a disease. (It's not lupus).
Sitting on your ass and scarfing cheetos and Mountain Dew is not a disease.

Pharma lobbyists are very good, I'm sure they are paid well.
This is just capitalism at work.

It seems that folks here think the obese, as a group, made this happen.
They did not. Pharma lobbyists did. To make money.

This is definitely a conundrum for those fighting against the Bloomberg nanny state where you can't buy a mega soft drink.
On one hand you have government saying you are too stupid to eat right, so we'll limit your choices. On the other, you have Corporate America making $ off of the obese with an obvious message, eat what you want, we have a pill to save you. And in a ninja move like few others, Corporate America will now make government pay for those pills, it's now officially a disease. There you go.

There was a recent experiment were they implanted stomach bacteria from obese mice into thin mice and vice versa. The obese mice became thin and the thin mice became thin. It hasn't been tried on humans yet.
Eat the barf of a skinny person.
