Best way to fix a dent...

What's the PPOT brain trust say about fixing this dent? Use weld on studs with a puller and heat or what? It's got a couple of good creases in it.

Is that a BMW? The metal is pretty stout in that area.

I would use the studs but I might cut it open too since I can weld in a patch pretty easily. Really, a lot of ways to skin that cat.

Fred, yes, it's a BMW and it "took a little bump".

I'd have to buy a stud gun and torches to fix it, so I may look at opening it and patching it, as Zeke mentions, since I do have a mig welder.

Just an idea:
Cut out the corner,
Hammer metal into shape with heat,
Weld reinforcements onto backside of corner piece and add overlap at weld joints,
Fix/seal all rust while in there (except weld area),
Weld fixed back into place,
Drill hole for a standard body drain plug, and spray interior of frame area with rust preventative (liquid/paint/waxoyl/other).

Cut it out, straighten any surrounding bent areas and weld in a replacement piece. I don't think there is an easy way to fix that good.

Half of it is covered by the front fender, so I might cut it out, beat it back in shape, weld it back on (and patch as needed) and fill the rest of it. I have some Wurth undercoating I can use to touch it up and then paint.

Thanks guys!

I use weld through primer on the back side. It gets burned and rusts anyway so you do need to do this ^^^^^.

Nothing rusts faster on a car than a welded repair unless you take great steps to protect and prevent rust on the welds and the weld heat zone. Actually, the heat zone is worse than the weld bead. But not by much.

Spot welding is really a terrific way to build/repair a car outside of a cold bond.
