saw my grandmothers old house

we stopped in memphis on our way back from a horse show in OKC, BTW my daughter got 4th in nationals for her class.
we stopped to eat some BBQ and it looked like we were close to where she use to live. we were. just a mile or 2 away. so i thought i would take the family to see it.
she died over 25 years ago i would say. i have seen it since, but this time it has been very hard on me.
even when she was alive i think she was the last white person that lived in this neighborhood, so i new it was not going to be pretty.
when i turned into the neighborhood it was very scary. i had the 45 close buy.

here are some pics. there use to be a concrete railing across the front. thats gone.
my granddad built a 32ft yacht in the back yard. the workshop is gone too.
its hard to think about this is were my mom grew up.

Kudos for going to see it. Memphis is one of those cities that has been abandoned by law and god fearing people.

I used to joke that I don't even fly low over there. Now, I do not leave the freeway or slow down. That house and property would be worth some money were it located anywhere else.

The pictures don't make it look scary or run down, but I believe you.

Next time you are in OKC send me a PM. We can get together and say hello. I always like to meet a Pelican.

Had a job offer recently to move to Memphis.
Darn good $$$$ but the wife said "you can go to Memphis if you want, but I'm staying here and I get the house".
nuff said.

We went thru OKC week ago Sunday. ate at Braums, hit the ATM for some money, couple hundred gallons of diesel, and 20 miles west on I-40, TPMS alarmed one of the 4 trailer tires. It had picked up a 3/8's inch bolt somewhere there. After a stop on the side of the road, spare was on, and tire repaired in AMA.

it was scary. i had to turn off 2 streets to get to it. imagine, a white mercedes wagon with 4 white people stopped, taking pics. if there had been someone on the porch, i dont think i would have done it.
i need to find some piics of it when she lived there.

i picked up a bolt in a tire too. you know, i think there are more tire places per sq mile in OKC than in the country. i guess they need the business.

i did see what looked like a broken down 911 SC while i was in memphis, still not in the best part of town. it may have been good for parts, but i did not go look at it since it would not do me any good. if someone lives there i can tell you where i was and maybe you can find it.

You would not want to see the home my Grandparents last owned. Yours is a mansion on the GOOD side of the tracks.

Not too bad a looking neighborhood, in the daytime. But yes, Memphis is not an easy city to live in. It was abandoned years ago. I felt a bit unsafe there in the early '90s on a visit so my ex-wife could see Graceland.

What type of riding? Kind of horse? I am guessing you paid to have transported.

We are down to two Trakehners and two Arabs.

Lots of Scary places in Houston have houses that wouldn't look too bad in pictures. There are some nice looking areas, just off Navigation and old Galveston Rd.

Pics of the area around the house might show the scariness.

its was IEA. she did western horsemanship, got 4th. she just started doing the western stuff this year. had only a few lessons through the year when she made nationals and we had to up the lessons so she had a chance.
she has done english and jumping and she is a very natural rider, so that helped.

we did not have to take a horse. kinda nice about this class. a moderate rider on a $$$ horse can win. this kinda evens the field because you dont know what you will ride.
her friend rides a really nice horse and does very well at shows. but now that they are both riding whatever, my daughter has really shined. her friend did not make nationals.
her friend can ride(show) a good horse better than my daughter, but my daughter can ride a bad horse better than her. seems odd.
