Total Knee Replacement

Now I'm the proud owner of a right bionic knee... how long do you - guys that have done it - believe it'll take to be able to "crawl back into" the 930/987/356 and go for a drive? I had surgery a week ago and tried to get in the 930 this morning... there is no way YET. Withdraw is settling in, I need some patience NOW!!!

I watched the procedure on Discovery Fit & health... It made my slightly arthritic knee hurt. Hell, it made my stomach hurt. Good luck Steve Austin.

So, there is hope within a month... I take it, because right now I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I have had both knees done. Both times, I was driving two days out of the hospital (one-night hospital stay the first time, a two-night stay the second time) and driving the SC within a couple of weeks. For me, the issue both times was having enough flexibility to get into and out of the car.

I hear the more you do the therapy, the faster and better you will heal and feel. I need a shoulder done and I'm putting it off. Maybe this winter.

I was driving p-car in 10 days to 2 weeks....Snowmobiling in 5 weeks..That 1st week is rough, fast progress after that point.

Be diligent about your excersies and PT...

I had a total knee replacement on my left knee in late 2011. Was driving the 964 about 3-4 weeks later. I was doing PT 4 days a week that first month.

I was also cleared for road cycling in 3 months. Did a century bike ride 6 months after surgery.

Well, well, well, got in the 930 this morning; but could not make the Cayman or the 356. Somehow the 930 feels like motherhood... but still no way to flex the foot enough to handle brake or gas pedals. Will keep you posted!
BTW 5string43 they kept me in the hospital for 4 days. Rehab began the day after surgery, three days a week.

The horror stories are not - all - a fact. Recovery has been great, therapy intense but tolerable, and mobility improving daily. Four week after surgery and able to drive all the P-cars; somehow the Cayman is the most difficult to get in and out. If I would have known it was going to be like this I would have done the replacement YEARS AGO. Life is good!

I hear you about "Years Ago"....In 1991, I was told I needed a knee replace but to put if off as long as I could. Back they only lasted 10 yrs and could not be done again......I put if off 20 years. Some say the most painful thing they did all year was to watch me walk.....Should have done it much sooner.......G'luck...

Miguel,, I"ve had both knees and a hip (done 2x)..
First one I skied 9 weeks after having it done ( skied 7 weeks after the hip was done).. but I was only 48 when that was done and 39 when the hip was done the first time.
This last one I was in my race car 8 weeks after it was done , was in the porsche I think 3-4 weeks after the operation.
In general it takes a FULL year to be fully recovered ( so you get up in the morning and don't think to yourself F*&K that's not my knee!!).. Nerves grow slowly , so it will be a while until your incision isn't numb.. Also takes at least 2 month until you can kneel on the ground to change a tire etc..
