Great picture Vin. Every helmet tells a story. I have, as you know, the utmost respect for what you have done and continue to do.

Even thought it is not nearly as cool as your lid, I hope you don't mind if I share one of my old helmets.

The Navy changed helmet styles in 1996, moving away from the old helo style to a more stream-lined model. I got to keep mine in the transition. This one rode around my noodle for 3k plus hours, lots of of night vision goggle time, memories.

It sits on a shelf, waiting for the next ride.

Very old school cool.

I'm guessing US made. Is the leather version still made?

BTW- That helmet has a soul, speaks pride and bravery.
When a firefighter is seriously injured or killed, their turnout gear is immediately confiscated. Everything is gone over with a microscope. All of your PPE has to be up to date, and not past the specified service parameters. If someone has "expired" gear, or it is found to be damaged or worn out, the dept will face a huge liability. Also every once in a while , OSHA may pop in and do a surprise inspection. Leather helmets are still made, and are OSHA and NFPA approved. They just have had a few changes made to the suspensionn systems on them. most Dept's wont buy them because they are super expensive. In my opinion, the newer plastic helmets dont provide any better protection. only advantage i see is they are about half the weight.

1-EV, thanks for the offer, but its gonna get buried with me.

Paul, very cool helmet. I still have my old SPH-4 although it got trashed when my basement flooded.

How do the newer plastic helmets hold up when it gets hot?

I bet the leather one would do much better.
