Have the Italians ever styled an ugly sports car?

just beautiful curves is what I see

note the sports car only part of the title...

I really like the Alfa Romeo Guilia made back in the 1960's - no pics though. I think it was prone to rust....

But I agree, as far as sports car styling over the history of the car, it's hard to beat the Italians.

Overall, IMO they have the best portfolio.

And, of course, they have the greatest work of sports car art of all time:

I saw a Maserati Ghibli the other day. 45 years old and still a gorgeous, timeless look.

The Maserati Biturbo was pretty homely. It looks like a BMW stepchild so if you consider an M3 a sports car I suppose this qualifies. From Wiki:
The Maserati Biturbo (Tipo 116) is a sports car introduced by Maserati in 1981. The Biturbo is a two-door, four-seater notchback coupé (of somewhat smaller dimensions than the BMW 3 Series of the time) featuring, as the name implies, a two-litre V6 engine with two turbochargers and a luxurious interior. The car was designed by Pierangelo Andreani, an engineer from the De Tomaso team, somewhat influenced by the design of the newer Quattroporte III (Italdesign Giugiaro), as can be observed on the front fascia.

so far, the low point of Italian design:

1. is too aggro looking; too many vents, sharp creases, etc.
or

2. looks like a BMW stepchild

the high points are gorgeous...

not really too bad, eh?

no one has posted a GTB or NART yet BTW

Cars and styling are as much a reflection of the time as anything else.

To judge certain cars without knowledge of what the days culture was is not really fair.

Personally I don't see anything yet in this thread that I would call ugly.

Have you ever wondered why 99% of the pictures you see of a Zonda are front or 3/4 front or back? Because it looks unbalanced from the side . . .
