RIP Tom Clancy
Have not read a lot of fiction lately, but enjoyed his books several years ago.

Damn!! My favorite author, and always a good read. Just finished two of his books...and pre-ordered his new release (December) from Amazon yesterday.
RIP, Mr. Clancy

Tom Clancy saved my sanity on a very long trip back from Wakayama, Japan to AZ. Before starting the haul to Osaka, I stopped at a bookstore in Wakayama--and the only English-language book they had was Rainbow Six.
RIP

Tom Clancy was the author that sparked with my reading. Without those books I would have barely a smidgen of the knowledge that I have to this day.
I started with Rainbow Six and then moved thru all the other books in the series. They are still to this day fantastic reads. I actually have a Clancy novel sitting on my nightstand right now. New series about Jack Ryan Jr. I'll miss his books.

Damn. He was a fantastic writer. I haven't read any of his new stuff, but I loved the original Jack Ryan books like Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, etc. I read my first Tom Clancy book when I was in the 4th grade, I bought The Hunt for Red October in Orlando and had it done before the plane touched down in Kansas City. I had just gotten done riding on the USS Topeka, a Los Angeles class attack sub, so there was definitely a theme going. I got in trouble when I got home, my parents didn't think it was appropriate for a kid and they were probably right. Good thing grandpa took me.....

Like a number of you, I really enjoyed his techno-thrillers (about the only fiction I bother reading). Gone too soon. RIP Tom
